GUARDIANS PROSPECTS
Hunter Stanley (Peoria, SP): W (1-1), 4 IP, 1 H, 8 K – Stanley’s dominance was the story of the night, not only for the Guardians org, but the entire AFL. Amazing to think that he wasn’t even on the original Javelina roster. Needless to say, he is making the most of his last-second opportunity to get some much-needed innings in this fall.
Mason Hickman (Peoria, RP): H (2), 1 IP, 1 BB – While his eighth was night as dominant as Stanley’s start, it was still highly effective and earned Hickman his second hold of the fall.
Cade Smith (Peoria, RP): S (1), 1 IP, 1 H, 4 K, 1 WP – Smith completed the win/hold/save trifecta for the Guardians org by striking out three in a row to complete a rare four-K frame that started with a K-WP and a single to bring the winning run to the plate. The save was Smith’s 20th of his post-high school career (18 in the minors, including 13 this summer, one in college, and this one in the fall league).
Angel Martinez (Peoria, SS): 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB – Whatever boos Martinez got from facing the struggling Kumar Rocker on Monday seemed to carry over to Thursday’s contest.
Connor Kokx (Peoria, CF): 0-4 – Kokx, on the other hand, had a rare rough night at the plate in the Valley of the Sun.
Jose Tena (Estrellas, SS): 2-3, 1 BB,1 E – No walk-off heroics on Thursday, Tena was the offensive star of a rough night for the Estrellas, accounting for half of their hits and three of their eight trips to the basepaths.
