Scoreboard

Tripe-A: Columbus Clippers 9, Toledo Mud Hens 8 (Game 1)
Toledo Mud Hens 7, Columbus Clippers 2

Highlights

Nolan Jones (RF, Columbus): 3-7, 2B, 3 R – Jones didn’t get the call back up to the majors in September and not this week over Will Brennan, but he’s been hitting well despite that in the last few weeks in Columbus.

Oscar Mercado (CF, Columbus – Game 1): 3-4, 2B, 3 RBI – Mercado raised his season OPS to .800 in Columbus. Last year in Columbus he didn’t hit well, but this year as he’s now off the 40 man roster, he’s at least giving himself a chance to find another team in 2023.

Notable Performances

Bryan Lavastida (C, Columbus): 1-3, HR – Lavastida hit his ninth homer of the year in game one of the Clippers’ double-header, so all in all he matched his 2021 homer totals despite a tough season for him offensively.

George Valera (DH-LF, Columbus): 1-6, HR, 3 RBI – Valera smacked a three run homer in game one, giving him nine at Triple-A and 24 for the season. Who knows what will happen in 2023, but Will Brennan’s callup in late September while not on the 40 man roster, over Jones and before Valera might be very telling for the clubs future outfield.

Brayan Rocchio (SS, Columbus): 2-6, BB, RBI – Rocchio has had some good moments in Triple-A so far, but hasn’t been a stand out offensively since getting there. He’s still young for the level but this is a good case for Amed Rosario returning for Cleveland in 2023, giving Rocchio more time to prove himself in Triple-A.

Logan Allen (SP, Columbus): 4IP, 7H, 5ER, BB, 5K – Allen struck out over a batter per inning in another start, but also allowed five runs again, all in the first two innings. He continually has one or two bad innings in his starts, and then pitches two or three innings where he looks like the pitching prospect he has been the past two years. He still needs to find some consistency in Triple-A in 2023.

Kyle Marman (RP, Columbus): 2.1IP, H, ER, 3K – Not a great outing for Marman, but also not a bad one. It marks his first Tripe-A appearance.
