Triple-A: Louisville Bats 3, Columbus Clippers 2
Double-A: Akron RubberDucks 4, Harrisburg Senators 3
High-A: Lake County Captains 7, South Bend Cubs 2
Single-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 5, Lynchburg Hillcats 4“
Dominican Summer League: DSL CLE Red 8, DSL Marlins 2 F/6 (Rain)
DSL CLE Blue 0, DSL BOS Red (suspended 3rd inning, wet grounds)
Will Brennan (LF, Columbus): 3-4, 3B, BB – For a bit there, it looked like Brennan was going to have a bit of a tough July. And he’s only got a .319 OBP this month, lowering his OPS. But he’s still hit .299 and has 26 hits. If that’s a slow month, Brennan is in a good spot. Now, Willie Two Bags has 27 doubles, or, one less than he had all of 2021.
Gabriel Arias (3B, Columbus): 1-3, BB, 2 RBI – This looks like a bit of a pedestrian line from Arias, but it’s not. Maybe what is most encouraging about it is that Arias’ RBI in this game came from a groundout and a sac fly. And he also had a hit, and a walk. So he had four productive plate appearances. That’s really what is encouraging for a player like Arias who needs the bat to begin matching the glove again.
Oscar Mercado (CF, Columbus): 2-3, SB, BB – Also a productive day for Mercado as well, who really needs a change in orgs again.
Peyton Battenfield (SP, Columbus): 6IP, 4H, 2ER, 2BB, 3K – Still hard to fathom why the Ks are down for Battenfield, but he continues to be a workman like pitcher for the Clippers, limiting runs and hits and putting in solid innings.
Joey Cantillo (SP, Akron): 3IP, H, 2BB, 4K – After a month off for arm care and rest, Cantillo came back and was as solid as ever. He got up to 94 with his fastball and only allowed a hit, still striking out over a batter an inning.
Brayan Rocchio (SS, Akron): 2-4, 2B, 2R – Rocchio now has four doubles to go with five homers in his blistering July, with an OPS over 1.000.
Jhonkensy Noel (LF, Akron): 2-4, RBI- A night where Noel doesn’t have an extra base hit could be a good thing. He’s been very much all or nothing in Akron, so seeing him get two hits without needing to go yard to be productive is also quite encouraging.
Milan Tolentino (SS, Lake County): 2-3, HR, 3R, RBI, 2BB, 2 SB – Hard to have a more productive day than Tolentino’s, being on base four times, scoring three times and stealing two bases. He did it all from the leadoff spot on Saturday.
Jonathan Rodriguez (DH, Lake County): 2-5, HR, 3 RBI – His three run jack got the Captains out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Eight of Rodriguez’s 14 homers have come in the month of July.
Joe Donovan (C, Lynchburg): 2-4, 2B, HR – Donovan carried the Hillcats offense with his fourth homer of the season, although it wasn’t enough to pull off a win.
Jaison Chourio (CF, DSL Red): 0-1, R, 3BB, SB/CS – Chourio has 33 walks and just 16 strikeouts in 29 games in his first pro season. He also swiped his 11th bag but also got caught for the third time trying to steal a second bag.
Frederic Garcia (SP, DSL Blue); 2IP, 5K – Not often you see a DSL pitcher strike out five of six batters faced without a walk of a hit allowed. But Garcia is 21.
C Bo Naylor (C, Columbus): 1-4, SB – A single and a steal for Naylor, which gives him 15 in 18 tries this year. He also did allow a runner to steal, but still a solid days work from your catcher’s spot.
Gabriel Rodriguez (3B, Lake County): 2-4 – GRod only has one homer this month but he’s putting together his second solid calendar of stats in a row.
Davis Sharpe (RP, Lake County): 2.1IP, 2H, 1K – Sharpe continues to be a lights out reliever for Lake County and should advance pretty well in this role.
Yordys Valdes (SS, Lynchburg): 2-4, R – Valdes hasn’t quite had the hit tool we’ve expected but he picked up two hits here and also has gotten on base a decent bit.
Isaiah Greene (CF, Lynchburg): 1-4, RBI, SB – That’s 24 swipes for Greene on the season.
Victor Izturis (C, DSL Red): 1-3, 2B, R, RBI, BB – Izturis, a potential real catching prospect with a good hit tool hasn’t hit a ton in 2022 yet, but he’s getting on base and hit a key hit in this win.
Emerson Purroy (LF, DSL Red): 0-1, R, RBI, 3BB – Getting on base three times to push through a run through a walk and scoring a run without a hit is pretty productive.
Ronald Pena (RF, DSL Red): 0-3, 2 R, 2 SB – Pena didn’t get a hit but managed to score a run and steal two bases anyway.
