Highlights

Hunter Gaddis (SP, Columbus): 4IP, H, 3BB, 6K –  Gaddis threw 44 of his 68 pitches for strikes in his Triple-A debut, and retired eight in a row at one point. Despite the three walks, an all in all solid debut for Gaddis at the highest level of the minors.

Will Benson (DH, Columbus): 2-6, HR, 3RBI – Another big game for Benson, who now has his average up to .271 (a pretty good mark for him.

Tyler Freeman (2B, Columbus): 3-5, HR, 2 RBI – After  agreat June, Freeman struggled early in July, but now has a seven game hitting streak and is 12-30 in that stretch, albeit with singles until tonight when he homered and walked.

Bo Naylor (C, Columbus) 2-5, 2 3B – Pretty rare to see a catcher with a triple, let alone two. But with his speed and athleticism, Naylor isn’t like most catchers.

Will Brennan (CF, Columbus): 3-4, 2B, RBI – Brennan also saw a slight downturn in early July but has started to see better results as of late.

Jhonkensy Noel (LF, Akron): 2-4, HR, 2R, 3 RBI – Noel hit a pair of titanic blasts for the ‘Ducks. He has 27 as a 21 year old and won’t turn 22 until around this time in 2023. It’s been all homers and not much else for Noel this year, but 27 at his age over two levels is quite impressive if he can continue to grow as a hitter.

George Valera (RF, Akron): 1-4, HR, 2 RBI – Valera finished before the break and Futures game with back issues but played just fine in the FUtures game and got back on track with his homer here.

Angel Genao (SS, ACL): 2-4, BB – Genao continues to impress as an 18 year old in the ACL.

Lexer Saduy (DH, ACL): 2-5, 3B, 2 RBI – The first triple of the year for the 19 year old outfielder.

Maick Callado (1B, ACL): 3-5, 2 2B, 2 RBi – The 19 year old switch hitter has been on a tear in the ACL this year.

Frederic Garcia (RP, DSL Blue): 4.1IP, H, BB, 11K – The 22 year old, 6’4 right hander faced 15 batters and struck out 11. He’s missed plenty of bats this year and is way old for the level, but this is a hell of a performance regardless. 

Brayan Guedez (2B, DSL Red): 3-5, 2B, 2 RBI – Just the fourth double of the year for Guedez and by far maybe the best game of his career. 

Notable Performances

Bobby Bradley (1B, Columbus): 1-3, HR, 3R, RBI, BB – Bradley had a pretty solid June with five homers but now just has his first in the month of July and he could use a hot streak pretty bad.

Brayan Rocchio (2B, Akron): 1-2, 2R, HR, 2 RBI, 2BB – Very solid performance for the blazing Rocchio, hitting a blast of his own and drawing a pair of walks. Interesting that he’s been getting most of his playing time at second base recently.

Daniel Schneeman (3B, Akron): 2-3, RBI – Schneeman followed up his walkoff homer last night with a pair of singles and another run driven in.

Akron bullpen: 4.1IP, 2H, BB, 6K – Why is the Akron bullpen notable for 4.1IP scoreless innings of relief? Brett Daniels, Randy Labaut and Robert Broom are specifically notable. But the Akron bullpen has been abomonibal quite often lately, so the fact that this group was able to hold the fort down long enough Noel to save them, was quite interesting. 

Petey Halpin (CF, Lake County): 2-4, 2B – Not much to write home about offensively for the Captaints the night after a huge offense outburst, but Halpin’s torrid July continues and is not hittin .417 this month.

Jake Fox (2B, Lynchburg): 1-5, 2B, K – Rare to see Fox strikeout without a walk, but he still did get on base once and doubled in the Hillcats loss.

Dayan Frias (3B, Lynchburg): 1-3, 3B, R, BB – Frias hasn’t quite had the big year we thought but has still shown flashes of hitting and getting on base like he did in the Cuban Winter League.

Wuilfredo Antunez (CF, Lynchburg): 0-1, 3BB – This was Antunez’s full season debut after playing well as a 20 year old in the ACL, walking more than he struck out.

Wilmer Hernandez (C, ACL): 1-3, 2RBI, 2BB – The first four RBI of Hernandez’s 2022 season have come in the last two games.

Yorman Gomez (SP, ACL): IP, K – Gomez only faced three batters. He’s had a pretty good season as far as complex leagues go and hasn’t pitched this few innings all year, so it’s curious why he left after one inning.

Alberto Mendez (2B, DSL Blue): 2-4, 2B, BB – Mendez doubled for the fourth time this season in the DSL win.

Erickson Sarita (RF, DSL Blue): 1-2, 2 RBI, 2BB – Sarita hasn’t hit much this year but had a good game here, getting on base four times.

Luis Aparicio (CF-LF, DSL Blue): 1-3, R, 2BB – Aparicio has six walks compared to three strikeouts. He also did get caught stealing and made an error in this as well. 

Jaison Chourio (CF, DSL Blue): 1-4, RBI – Even with a lighter game, Chourio still impacted it with a sac fly and a single.

Yanki Jean-Baptiste (3B-SS, DSL Blue): 1-4, R, RBI – Jean-Baptiste did strikeout three times and has struck out a ton so far in his DSL debut, but is still managing to hit. 

Emerson Purroy (DH, DSL Blue): 1-5, 3B, 2 RBI – The 19 year old hasn’t done much offensively in his second DSL season but did come through in this one.

Emilio Taveras (C, DSL Blue): 0-1, R, 3BB, SB – Tavares has walked more than he’s struck out this year and also added a steal.

Pedro Almanzar (SP, DSL Blue): 4IP, 4H, BB, 3K – Almanzar had a good start to the season in June but in July had allowed 12 runs (seven earned) in his three outings, so his scoreless outing gives him a return to his better outings.
