Willie Hood’s Analysis:

Ellerts attended Harford Community College, MD, and Patrick & Henry Community College, VA (no stats available) before transferring to Florida SouthWestern State College for the 2022 season. The righty pitched for the DC Grays in 2019 (Cal Ripken Collegiate Summer League) where he recorded 18 strikeouts with 7 walks in 12.1 innings. In 2021, he pitched in the Appalachian League with the Danville Otterbots making 3 appearances (2 starts) striking out 18 batters while walking 10 in 9.2 innings of work. The Florida SouthWestern Bucs ace started 14 games this season logging 69 innings. He struck out 101 batters (13.17 K9) and walked 36 (4.7 BB9) and allowed 48 hits (6.26 H9). The Virginia native pitched for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer logging 12.2 innings, striking out 21 batters, and walking 8.

The right-hander displays an 89-93 mph fastball that touches 94 mph, there are reports of 96 mph this summer. Ellerts has a 12-to-6 curveball with depth that sits in the mid-upper-70s, paired with his sweeping slider that sits in the low-80s. On the hill, Ellerts displays a strong 6’5, 225 frame with length and athleticism. He has quick arm action and head whack that pulls toward the third base side. He lacks a changeup, command issues, and the effort in his delivery point toward a reliever profile where his fastball, slider, and curve combo would play in short stints. As a younger junior (21.3) Cleveland could try to develop a changeup and reduce the head whack to attempt to maximize the right-hander as a starting pitcher. The Florida commit is expected to officially sign in the coming days.
