Brayan Rocchio (Akron, SS): 3-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K – Rocchio continued a stellar July (.396/.439/.679 with four homers and eleven RBI in 13 games) with a stellar finale to the the Mallards of Main Street’s pre-All-Star Break series that saw him drive in one of the ‘Ducks two non-home run RBI on a third-inning single and three more on his tenth homer of the season to kickstart the colossal eighth that put the game out of the Baysox’ reach.
Gavin Williams (Akron, SP): W (1-2), 5 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 8 K, 1 WP – Williams rebounded from his worst Double-A outing so far (2 ER in 4.2 IP last Sunday) with arguably his best effort at the level. Unsurprisingly, his Akron stats are impressive: 1.75 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 32:14 K:BB ratio, and .144 opponents’ AVG).
Jorge Burgos (Lynchburg, RF): 3-4, 2 R, 1 BB – Burgos enters the All-Star Break on a tear. He has three multi-hit games in his last four, a stretch during which he is hitting .412.
Bryan Lavastida (Akron, C): 0-5, 1 R – Lavastida went hitless for only the second time in this rehab stint, but extended his scoring streak to four games after reaching on an error in the eighth.
BEST OF THE REST
Jose Tena (Akron, 2B): 3-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – Tena has been a bit feast-or-famine lately as he ended a two-game 0-for-7 mini-slump (which was preceded by an eight-total base game) with this six-total base effort.
Julian Escobedo (Akron, CF): 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 HBP – Escobedo extended his hitting streak to five games with an eighth-inning single that provided the other non-homer RBI (his 28th of the season).
Daniel Schneemann (Akron, 3B): 3-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI – Schneemann’s first homer since May 22 was a big one as his three-run shot capped off a seven-run eighth inning that sealed the victory for the RubberDucks.
Quentin Holmes (Akron, RF): 2-4, 1 R, 1 SB – After an 0-for-6 start to his Double-A career, Holmes broke out in a big way for his first hits and stolen base as a RubberDuck.
Dayan Frias (Lynchburg, 3B-2B): 2-3, 1 R, 2 BB – Frias’ last six games have been an even mix of multi-total base and hitless contests.
Richard Paz (Lynchburg, DH): 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K – Paz’s two-run double in the ninth is the highlight so far of a rough July that has seen him slash .161/.278/.194.
Victor Planchart (Lynchburg, C): 2-5, 1 E – Planchart got back to the Mendoza Line for July with a single and a double in yesterday’s contest.
