HIGHLIGHTS

Alexfri Planez (Lake County, RF): 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B –   While the headline is obviously Planez’s hitting streak reaching 17 games, he also made a spectacular outfield assist on a play at second base.

Jack Leftwich (Lake County, SP): W (1-0 in High-A, 5-2 overall) 6.1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K – There’s not being fazed by a new level and then there’s seemingly not even noticing that you’re facing tougher hitters and the latter is what Leftwich did in his High-A debut on Independence Day.  It’s only one start, but what a start it was.

BEST OF THE REST

Will Benson (Columbus, RF): 2-3, 1 2B, 2 BB – Benson’s on-base streak reached 20 games last night, including 17 where he has reached multiple times – a total which includes his last 13 games in a row! During this streak, he has reached 51 times (21 hits, 29 walks, and one hit by pitch) and has amassed 38 total bases on those 21 hits.

Will Brennan (Columbus, CF): 2-4, 1 r, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 E – Will Brennan continues to do Will Brennan things.  It seems hard to believe that he doesn’t put on a Guardians uniform at some point this season (and I don’t mean for the Futures Game).

Bo Naylor (Columbus, DH): 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Naylor’s eighth-inning single gave him the only Clippers’ RBI on the Fourth of July (the first run scored an inning earlier on a wild pitch).

Angel Martinez (Lake County, SS): 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – Martinez has four two-hit games in his last six played.

Petey Halpin (Lake County, CF): 2-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 BB – Halpin picked up where he left off from his hot streak last week in Eastlake, making it 16 total bases in his last six games.

Johnathan Rodriguez (Lake County, DH): 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 3 K – J-Rod struck out three times last night, but his one hit was a two-run double in the top of the eighth that all but sealed the victory for the Eastlake nine.

Milan Tolentino (Lake County, 2B): 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB – Tolentino made it five games in a row with a hit yesterday.

Gabriel Rodriguez (Lake County, 3B): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K – G-Rod now has at least one homer in three straight series after lighting the fuse on the  the Captains’ offensive fireworks with a two-run shot in the second.

Jake Fox (Lynchburg, 2B): 3-5, 1 K – Fox has a nine-game on-base streak after his second three-hit game out of three overall this month.

Isaiah Greene (Lynchburg, CF): 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB – Greene had the Hillcats’ only RBI (other run scored when RF Jorge Burgos grounded into a double play) and stole his 13th base of the season last night.

Braunny Munoz (Lynchburg, RP): 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 K, 1 HBP – Munoz came in and dominated after starter Reny Artiles didn’t make it out of the first inning (0.2 IP, 1 H, 4 ER, 3 BB,1 HBP).

Miguel Vinicio (Lynchburg, RP): 1 IP, perfect – Vinicio dominated in his first non-complex game of the season after being activated from a season-opening stint on the IL earlier in the day.

Maick Collado (ACL, 1B): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Collado broke a 3-3 deadlock and drove in half of the A-Guards runs in the bottom of the seventh on the tam;s only extra-base hit of the Independence Day matinee (Seriously, they played a 2;00 PM outdoor game in Arizona in July.  Thankfully, the first pitch temperature was only 95 degrees – I’ve seen boxscores from ACL matinees with temps in the 110s.).

Angel Genao (ACL, SS): 2-4, 1 R, 1 K – Genao rebounded from a pair of hitless games with this two-hit effort that got his OPS back over .900 (from .897 to .903).

Felipito Santos (ACL, RP): S (1), 1 IP, perfect – Santos induced a trio of groundouts to convert his first stateside save opportunity (on the Fourth of July, no less!).

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES IN SUSPENDED GAMES

NOTE:  As you may have guessed from the above score, nothing notable happened for DSL Blue prior to their game being suspended.

Miguel Lopez (DSL Red, LF): 1-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 CS/Picked Off 1 time (both charged to him on same play) – Lopez is one of two Guardians Red players to be involved in three runs (scored two and drove in another) before the game was halted.

Jaison Chourio (DSL Red, CF): 1-3, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI – Chourio was the other.
