After dropping the first game the Columbus Clippers (46-32)  have a five-game winning streak in their series against the Iowa Cubs (34-43). They also held a four-game double-digit scoring streak. The team had scored 60 runs during those five games and 20 of those came from home runs. The team set a record by scoring 10 or more runs in four straight games.

Nick Mikolajchak had two shutout innings and earned his fourth save Sunday. Starting right-handed pitcher Xzavion Curry showed dominance as he went five innings with only allowing two runs and one walk Friday with a 3.60 ERA. Peyton Battenfield’s numbers were close behind on Saturday; he went six innings with only three runs and one walk.

Prospect of the Week

Nolan Jones 10-25, 9 R, 2 HR, 13 RBI

Nolan Jones continued to step up this week after his first home run of the season on June 26 against Omaha. He hit a game-tying grand slam on Thursday at the top of the sixth inning. That hit also set a career-high for Jones in a single game and marked his 24th RBI.

Who’s Hot

Will Brennan 13-28, 9 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI

Will Brennan progressed his on-base streak to 15 games Sunday. He has had 26 RBI in 28 games.

Alex Call 7-24, 10 R, 2 HR, 10 RBI

Alex Call’s three-run homer gave Columbus just the edge the team needed to secure their fifth win Sunday. He is one of three players on the team to have 20 or more RBI since June 4. He also hit one of the Clippers three grand slams this week in consecutive games.

Who’s Not

Bobby Bradley 2-12, 1 R, 0 HR, 4 RBI

The limited amount of hits was apparent. However, Bobby Bradley still contributed two RBIs in both of the games he appeared in so far in July. There is still a long road ahead before he can potentially be called up again.

Mitchell Tolman 5-20, 2 R, 0 HR, 4 RBI

Mitchell Tolman combined with Bradley for five RBIs in Saturday’s game. Over the past 22 games, he had been hitting at .221.
