HIGHLIGHTS

Fran Alduey (ACL, 2B): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K – Alduey drove in three runs in what was easily the best of his five stateside games so far, including two on a fourth-inning homer that gave the Guardians the lead for good.

Jeffrey Mercedes  (DSL Blue. 2B): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 K, 1 HBP – Mercedes drove on the majority of yesterday’s Guardians Blue runs on one swing of the bat with a bases-clearing double in the third before being thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple.

Pedro Hernandez (DSL Red, 3B): 3-6, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K – Hernandez extended his career-opening hitting streak to five games with one of many spectacular performances in yesterday’s slugfest at the Royals complex.

Ronald Pena (DSL Red, RF): 3-6, 2 R, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB – While he didn’t extend his season-opening walk streak on Monday, Pena more than made up for it with season-highs in hits and total bases.  Amazingly, Hernandez and Pena’s doubles were the Guardians Reds’ only extra-base hits in yesterday’s game.

BEST OF THE REST

Angel Genao (ACL, SS): 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Genao failed to make it four multi-hit games in a row to start his stateside career, but still made it a four-game season-opening hit streak.

Marlin Made (ACL, 1B): 2-3, 2 R, 2 BB – Made continues to improve as he readjusts to competitive baseball after two seasons away, as evidenced by his first multi-hit game of the season last night.

Wuilfredo Antunez (ACL, RF): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB – Antunez has followed up a walk-heavy start to the season (four walks while going 0-for-3 combined in his first two games) with a pair of two-hit outings.

Lexer Saduy (ACL, LF): 3-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB (intentional), 1 CS – After alternating hitless and one-hit games to start the season, Saduy broke out with this offensive masterpiece on Monday night.

Alonzo Richardson (ACL, SP): W (2-0), 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R (both earned), 4 K., 1 BK – Richardson ‘s first start of the year is notable because he managed to stay in a complex game long enough to earn the individual victory.

Jose Gomez (DSL Blue, RF): 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 CS, 1 E – Gomez has been unstoppable to start his pro career.  .391/.533/.696 is a good slash line, even in complex ball.

Jose Cedeno (DSL Blue, DH): 0-2, 1 R,, 1 RBI, 1 SF, 1 HBP – Despite going hitless for the first time as a professional, Cedeno continued his torrid RBI pace (now 10 in 5 games) with a fifth-inning sac fly.

Yonaiker Garcia (DSL Blue, RP): 2 IP, perfect, 3 K – Garcia has hurled 4.2 shutout frames in his last two outings after a disastrous start to his crucial fourth season in the DSL (3 ER on 2 H, 2 BB, and 1 HBP in 1 IP last Tuesday).

Jaison Chourio (DSL Red, CF): 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K – Chourio’s batting average (.300) and OPS (.931) reached new highs after he reached base four times on Monday.

Brayan Guedez (DSL Red, SS): 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Guedez continues to alternate hitless and multi-hit games through the first four official contests of his career.

Yefri Rivera (DSL Red, LF): 3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB,1 K, 1 HBP – Rivera rebounded from his first hitless game of the season with this offensive gem.

Pedro Almanzar (DSL Red, RP): W (2-0), 3 IP, 1 H, 3 K – Almanzar has picked up the individual victory in both of his outings so far this season.
