NOTE: This is the first (okay, second, the Clippers did play last Monday) Tuesday edition of Around The Farm for the 2022 season. While Mondays are a near-universal off day for the ticket-selling levels of the minors, the complex leagues take their off days on Sundays and Wednesdays (DSL plays some Wednesdays) instead. This gives us here at GBI a chance to focus on the complex leagues in these Tuesday editions and introduce you to some of the newest names in the Guardians organization. While complex leaguers will be featured in all ATFs for days on which they play, the Tuesday columns allow them to shine without taking a backseat to the better-known prospects in the higher classifications.

HIGHLIGHTS

Ryan Webb (ACL, SP): ND, 1 IP, 4 H, 2 R (both earned), 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR allowed – Last season’s fourth-round pick struggled in his long-awaited professional debut, but some or all of his issues may be attributable to lingering effects of his elbow injury and/or rust.

Angel Genao (ACL, SS): 2-4, 3 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K – While he undoubtedly has gotten a few games under his belt stateside in Extended Spring Training, it’s still impressive to be this good the first time he plays under full regular season rules.

Juan Benjamin (ACL, 2B): 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB – His first professional  homer and second career stolen base highlight a stellar ACL debut for Benjamin.

Moises Molero (DSL Blue, CF): 3-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB – It’s only one game into his competitive professional career, but this is an impressive statline for a guy on his 143rd day under a professional contract.

Jose Cedeno (DSL Blue, C): 2-4, 1 2B, 5 RBI, 2 BB – One of Molero’s fellow January 15 signings also got his professional career off to a spectacular start, in his case by driving in five runs.

Wagner Castillo (DSL Blue, RP): W (1-0), 2 IP, perfect, 4 K – Castillo dispatched all six batters he faced in his first official pro game in order.  Not a bad start to one’s career.

BEST OF THE REST

Manuel Mejias (ACL, DH): 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K – Another impressive stateside debut on Arizona Complex League Opening Day!

Maick Collado (ACL, 3B): 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K – Collado introduced himself to American pro ball with a three-hit evening.

Daniel Figueroa (ACL, RP): 2 IP, 2 H – Figueroa starts his second season stateside with a pair of scoreless frames.

Gueile Borrome (DSL Blue, 2B): 1-5, 3 RBI, 2 K, 1 SF, 1 SB – While it wasn’t quite five RBI, Borrome did drive in a trio of runs in his pro debut.

Jose Gomez (DSL Blue, starting LF): 3-5, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 K – As you may have surmised from the score at the top of the column, the big debuts just kept coming for the Blue squad.  In this case, in the form of a two-double morning.

Pedro Hernandez (DSL Red, DH): 1-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 K – Hernandez was involved in over half the runs in his professional debut.

Victor Izturis (DSL Red, C): 2-4, 1 2B, 4 PB – While not as impressive as the Blue catcher’s debut, Izturis opened his professional hitting account with a pair of Opening Day hits.  His start behind the plate, however, was ignominious to say the least.

Samuel Parra (DSL Blue, DH): 3-5, 4 R, 1 2B 1 RBI, 1 BB – Moving on to the returnees, Parra had a stellar start to his sophomore season in the DSL.

Yefri Rivera (DSL Red, LF): 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B – Another multi-hit, multi-run start to a second season in the Dominican.

Miguel Lopez (DSL Red, 1B): 1-2, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB – Lopez reached three times to start his second season.

Oscar Cedeno (DSL Blue, starting 1B): 2-2, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 HBP – Cedeno scored a trio of runs in his first game for the Guards’ top Dominican side.

Austin Aldeano (DSL Blue, SP): ND, 4 IP, 1 H, 5 K – Aldeano also dominated in his Blue debut.
