It was another rain shortened week for Lake County as their schedule continued to be filled with double-headers. In its six game series at Dayton, Lake County had three rainouts, including back to back days. The Captains and Dragons played double-headers Wednesday and Saturday and still wound up playing five of the six games that were scheduled. The Captains hit well in two games and won once out of those two good hitting days. Their other win was on the backs of team ace Gavin Williams once again. They also had an eventful nightcap of a double-header with a benches clearing brawl due to a play at home plate where pitcher Aaron Davenport was trying to cover home plate and ran into the Dragons’ Rece Hinds while tagging him. Hinds took offense to Davenport covering home plate, shoved him and then chaos ensued, resulting in seven total ejections. The Captains sit eight games back of the Dragons in the standings at 12-15.

Prospect of the Week

RHP Tanner Bibee: 2 GS, 10IP, 6H, 3ER, 2BB, 18K

It has been an impressive start to Bibee’s pro career but he has yet to get a win for his efforts, mostly due to the bullpen and the Captains offense. He pitched five innings each of the two start this week with eight and 10 strikeouts, respectively. Bibee was up to 97 in his start at Dayton last week, showing off an impressive four pitch mix. Gavin Williams has been dominant as well, but Bibee quietly has matched him start for start.

Who’s Hot

RHP Gavin Williams: 1 GS, 5IP, 2H, 2BB, 10K

Speaking of Williams, it was his shutout pitching performance earned Lake County one of its two wins this past week. That has Williams also hasn’t allowed a run in his last 14 innings pitched.

INF Angel Martinez: 5-15, 2B, 2 3B, 2 RBI, 4K/3BB –  .333/.444/.667

A lot of hitters have been struggling but it was good to see Martinez pick things up as he came into that series hitting .250 on the year.

C Micael Ramirez: 2-6, HR, 3 RBI

In limited playing time, Ramirez has hit well this season and has shown power in his limited at bats.

INF Raynel Delgado: 3-9, 2B, HR, 2 RBI

Delgado ended 2021 on a good note with the bat but has struggled to start 2022, so getting his bat going again while not getting priority playing time this year.

Who’s Not

3B/1B Jhonkensy Noel: 3-21, 2 2B, 11K/0BB – .143/.182/.238

Noel has started to swing and miss more as the league gets more reports on him. It’s not really a surprise. As a power hitter and being 20 in High-A, he was likely to be streaky and hit rough patches. We’ll see how he responds, but the swing and miss is definitely a concer right now with hos much he chases breaking stuff.

RHP Lenny Torres Jr.: 2.2IP, 6H, 3ER, HR, BB, 3K

Torres has only gotten into the fourth inning once this season and has failed to get past the third in his last three starts.
