It was a streaky week for Akron down in Richmond, as they dropped the first three games of the series, before bouncing back and collecting the final three games over the weekend. The difference clearly came in the pitching, as ace prospect Daniel Espino went on the IL, and mediocre performances from the pitching staff could not be compensated for by the offense. However, the starters in all three weekend games picked up victories, and the Ducks won while giving up 0, 3 and 1 runs in the wins.

Player of the Week

Will Brennan: 7-19, 7 R, 9 RBI

The 2019 8th rounder continued his blistering start to the campaign, batting .348 on the week and knocking home 9 RBI over the six-game set. Only striking out once all week, the outfielder earned the respect of opposing pitching, drawing three walks. He has earned the cleanup spot, with a six RBI day on Sunday, which included a three-run homer that put the game out of reach in just the second inning.

Who’s Hot

Julian Escobedo: 8-23, 4 2B, 8 RBI

Another outfielder coming in hot, Escobedo seems to have rebounded from a difficult stretch early in the year, as he stacked up eight hits, including four doubles.

Andrew Misiaszek: 4.0 IP, 1 ER, 7 SO

Complimenting an already stellar rotation, Misiaszek provides much needed security and stamina out of the pen. In the second of two appearances last week, he shut down the Richmond offense for three innings, not allowing a single runner to reach base, and striking out four. His ERA on the season is down at 0.57, and he boasts a sensational 0.77 WHIP.

Who’s Not

George Valera: 3-19, 9 K, .567 OPS, 1 RBI

When the number of strikeouts is tripling the number of hits, something isn’t going according to plan. Valera’s miserable week saw that happen. He tried to find a way to counter pitcher’s stingy placement, but failed, striking out on nearly half of his plate appearances. Still, he stayed true to his power hitting, as two of his three hits were for extra bases. He walked four times but needs to find ways to put the ball in play more often, even when the opposing team puts a target on his back.

Daniel Schneemann: 1-20, 8 K, 2 SB

There isn’t much to say about Schneemann that the stat line doesn’t tell you. His .050 batting average was a team worst, and his eight strikeouts were second only to Valera. However, as he works through the slump, it can be acknowledged that the strengths in his game are apparent. When he did get on base, he was trouble, stealing a pair of bases and scoring three runs. If he can staring getting the bat on the ball, he will be a formidable threat in Akron’s offense.
