Highlights

Joey Cantillo (SP, Akron): 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 7 K – After allowing a home run to start the game, Cantillo kept things close for the next five innings. After an error in the first, no other runners reached until he allowed a single in the fourth. He struck out the side in the third and his final two batters faced in the game in the fifth.

Adam Scott (SP, Columbus): 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K – Scott was perfect through the first four innings and still ended up facing the minimum thanks to a double play in the fifth.

Best of the Rest

Will Brennan (LF, Akron): 2/4, 2 2B – Brennan doubled in the third to advance Marcos Gonzalez to third, ultimately leading to the Ducks’ first run. He added another double in the eighth.

Oscar Gonzalez (DH, Columbus): 3/4, R – Gonzalez singled to lead off the second, but was stranded at first. He did so again in the fourth and again was stranded. He singled again in the sixth and scored this time thanks to Johnson’s homer.

Daniel Johnson (CF, Columbus): 1/4, 3 RBI, HR – Johnson had a fairly slow night until the sixth when his three run home run scored Gonzalez and Josh Naylor and increased the Clipper lead to five.

Reid Johnston (RP, Lynchburg): 3 IP, 0 R, H, 3 K – Johnston made his 2022 debut in the fifth with the Hillcats down 3-1. He had two perfect innings with three strike outs, then allowed a single and made a throwing error in the seventh before ending his outing without any further damage.
