Guardians News

  • According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, and The Athletic’s Zack Meisel,  the Cleveland Guardians reached a contract extension with third baseman, Jose Ramirez. The deal is for five-years, $124M. The deal also includes a no-trade-clause. This is the largest contract in franchise history– and is viewed league-wide as club friendly. 
  • Zack Meisel of The Athletic reported that the Cleveland Guardians and outfielder Myles Straw have agreed to a five-year, $25MM extension. This makes the third extension for the club after signing Jose Ramirez and Emmanuel Clase. 
  • Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan had quite the debut series against the Kansas City Royals. In four games, he went 9-for-13, two 2B, a 3B–which was one hit shy of the MLB record for hits through four games. He also reached base 15 times. Kwan is currently batting .692 with an astounding OPS of .789–which both lead the MLB.

  • Monday: The Detroit Tigers acquired outfielder Austin Meadows from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infielder Issac Paredes, and a Competitive Balance Round B selection. 
  • Tuesday: Milwaukee Brewers catcher Pedro Severino was been suspended 80 games after testing positive for PED’s. 
  • Wednesday: MLB hired former Cleveland Indian and New York Yankee All-Star CC Sabathia as a special assistant to commissioner, Rob Manfred. The position will include him working with player relations, diversity, equality and inclusion, social responsibility, youth participation, and broadcasting. Since Sabathia has retired, he’s been vice president to a non-profit organization known as the Player’s Alliance, which focuses on accessibility of baseball within the black community. 
  • Thursday: The Minnesota Twins acquired righties Chris Paddack and Emilo Pagan from the San Diego Padres in exchange for closer Taylor Rogers, and first baseman/outfielder, Brent Rooker. 
  • Friday: The Los Angeles Angels released veteran outfielder, Justin Upton. The veteran has struggled for quite some time at the plate and defensively. He still has $28M remaining on his current contract. 
  • Saturday: The Pittsburgh Pirates signed third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes to an 8-year, $70MM extension. He also has a club option worth $12M  that goes into effect in 2030. 
  • Sunday: The New York Yankees and outfielder Aaron Judge failed to reach a contract extension before the season began. Judge wanted an offer within the nine to ten year range–at about $36MM annually.The player’s that are closest to these number are Max Scherzer and Mike Trout.

  • According to Chris Cotillo of, the Boston Red Sox agreed to a four-year, $18.75MM extension with righty, Garrett Whitlock. The deal also includes club options for 2027 and 2028.
  • The San Francisco Giants promoted top outfield propsect Heliot Ramos to the big league club. He made his debut against the Miami Marlins and went 2-for-3 with an RBI. 
  • The Arizona Diamondbacks placed righty Luke Weaver on the 10-day IL with inflammation of his right elbow. 
  • The Los Angeles Angels placed lefty Jose Quijada on the 10-day IL due to an oblique strain. 
  • According to Jessica Camerato of, the Washington Nationals placed righty Mason Thompson on the 10-day IL with a right biceps strain. 
  • The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder Skye Bolt on the 10-day IL with an oblique strain. 
  • Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the Tampa Bay Rays promoted righty Tommy Romero to the big league club. 
  • According to AJ Cassaveli of, the San Diego Padres scratched lefty Blake Snell from his first start of the season against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Snell will likely be headed to the IL with left abductor tightness.
