NOTE: The Colombian League (LPB) and Puerto Rican League (LBPRC) had scheduled off days on Friday prior to starting their respective championship series. Colombian coverage will continue in ATF as each finalist has a Guardian on their roster. As no Guardians prospects from the Gigantes de Carolina (the lone Puerto Rican semifinalists with Guardians on their roster) were selected as refuerzos (reinforcements) by either of the finalists, ATF’s LBPRC coverage has come to an end for the 2021-22 season.

George Valera (Estrellas, backup RF): 0-2 – Valera went hitless for the second straight game, including his last two as a backup. This is a prime example of where playing in a winning-centric league can limit developmental reps. Unlike a Guardians farm team, the Estrellas do not have time for Valera to work through his slump, especially in the postseason. That said, this limitation is more than made up for by the experience these players get in a results-oriented environment, especially for international signings, who may never have played in a team success-over-individual development situation before (George lives in the States until age 13, so his experience may be different in this area.).

Speaking of the LIDOM postseason, here’s how the standings stack up with three games left in the Round Robin (top two advance to the Serie Final):

Estrellas Orientales (George Valera and Oscar Gonzalez) – 9-6
Gigantes del Cibao (Jose Fermin) – 9-6
Tigres del Licey
(Enyel De Los Santos) – 7-8
Aguilas Cibaenas (no Guardians) – 5-10
