ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE (AFL) – SCOTTSDALE SCORPIONS

SCORPIONS 4, GLENDALE DESERT DOGS 2

Jose Tena (2B): 0-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SF – Even on a difficult day at the plate, Tena still manages to be productive. In this case, he achieved this by driving in the Scorpions fourth and final run of the game via sac fly in the top of the second.

Michael Amditis (C) – 0-3 – Yes, Amditis has struggled at the plate in the AFL (.377). However, keep the following two things in mind: First, catcher is a position where defense is more important than offense. Heck, I’m waiting for someone to propose a second DH for the catcher (a dangerous move towards two-platoon baseball, in my opinion). Second, Michael is facing a much higher level of competition in the AFL than anything he has ever faced in the summer.

Damon Casetta-Stubbs (RP): 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R (earned) – It took 9.1 innings and eight outings, but Casetta-Stubbs allowed his first run of the AFL season on Fall Stars Eve. Even so, his autumnal stat line remains incredible: 0.96 ERA, .194 opponents’ batting average, nine strikeouts. Yes, he has had some control issues (eight walks have inflated his WHIP to 1.61), but until yesterday, he kept the opposition from crossing the threshold that really matters: home plate.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP)

Brayan Rocchio (La Guaira, SS): 0-4, 1 E – Rocchio struggled both at the plate and in the field on the night he was promoted to the leadoff spot. But it was only one night and his OPS remains above 1.100 (1.102).

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

AGUILAS CIBAENAS 9, ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES 2

Oscar Gonzalez (Estrellas, RF): 2-4, 1 K – Gonzalez has bookended a recent two-game 0-for-8 mini-slump with his first two multi-hit games of the Dominican campaign.

TIGRES DEL LICEY 5, LEONES DEL ESCOGIDO 4

J.C. Mejia (Licey. RP): 1 IP, 1 R (unearned), 2 K, 1 E – while the run is unearned, one of the three errors that allowed the inning to go on long enough for said run to score was committed by Mejia.

GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 6, TOROS DEL ESTE 4

Anthony Gose (Toros, RP): 0.2 IP, 1 K – Gose went two up-two down to keep the top of the seventh from getting further out of control.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC)

GIGANTES DE CAROLINA 6, RA12 1

Gianpaul Gonzalez (Carolina, C): 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB – Between reaching on a fielder’s choice (and stealing a base) in the second and drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh, Gonzalez had a pretty active evening for a guy who went hitless.

Johnathan Rodriguez (Carolina, PH-backup DH): 1-1, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Rodriguez also had an unusually busy night for a man in his circumstances. In his case, said circumstances were that he entered the game in the seventh inning as a pinch hitter.
