Triple-A – Nashville Sounds 1, Columbus Clippers 0

HIGHLIGHTS

Cody Morris (SP): L (2-2), 4.2 2 H, 1 R (earned), 2 BB, 7 K, 1 HR – Morris came within one bad pitch of hurling 4.2 shutout innings of one-hit baseball and still took the individual loss due to a…lackluster, yeah, let’s call it lackluster, night from the Clipper hitters.  This is a prime example of why W-L record paints a VERY incomplete picture of pitcher performance.  Ignoring all of that, Morris continued a stellar start to his Triple-A career.  Through nine outings (eight starts), he has a 1.72 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 52:12 K:BB ratio, and .191 opponents’ batting average.

James Karinchak (RP): 1 IP, perfect, 1 K – Karinchak’s mechanics seem to be rebuilt to the point where he can dominate in Triple-A.  The question is how he will fare against big league hitting the next time he gets the chance next spring.

BEST OF THE REST (I.E. THE LINEUP)

Will Benson (LF): 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K – Benson’s seventh-inning double to left was the Clippers’ lone extra-base hit of their 2021 road finale.  Benson has exactly one hit in each of the three Final Stretch games he has had a plate appearance in so far.

Connor Marabell (1B): 1-3 – Marabell’s line-drive single to right an inning earlier broke up the Sounds’ no-hitter.
