The ACL Indians had a really rough week, possibly due partly to the pair of hitters and pair of hitters promoted to Lynchburgh over the previous couple weeks. This pushed them to third in the overall standings (four games back) and brought the Dodgers back into contention in the ACL Central (2.5 games back). Since there are no play-offs this year, they have a little over one week to make up that ground if they want to be named 2021 ACL champions. If there is a tie, the champion will be determined by best head-to-head record, then best winning percent over the final 20 games.
Day by Day
9/3 L 9-7 Dodgers at Indians
9/4 L 0-4 (F/7) Indians at Reds
9/6 L 3-5 Indians at White Sox
9/7 L 2-4 Indians at Brewers Blue
9/9 W 13-5 Indians at Dodgers
Player of the Week
SS Jake Fox: 4/11, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 3 SB, 0 CS
Fox’s second week has went as well as his first, leading to a current four game hitting streak and .385/.452/.423 line on the season. He also went a perfect three for three on steals this week and has yet to commit an error while playing games at third, second and short.
Who’s Hot
Dayan Frias: 4/13, 5 BB, 2B, 3B, RBI, 3 R, 2 SB
Frias jumped into the zeitgeist due to his high walk rate and he has continued that this week without the great power shown last week. Even without any home runs, he’s continually added to the scoring with a pair of steals and three more runs.
Luis Durango: 8/16, 2 BB, 2 RBI, R, 3 SB
Durango has been and continues to be the driving force behind the 2021 ACL Indians offense. While he doesn’t hit for power, he is a constant threat to reach base and be a pest once there. This may not translate to the higher levels, but he’s certainly fun to watch in Arizona.
Who’s Not
CF Connor Kokx: 1/9, 3 BB, K, HBP, RBI, R
Kokx joined the ACL Indians the same time as Fox, but has had a very different experience. Over the last week he has been particularly unimpressive offensively, although he has used the HBP to increase his OBP. With the season rapidly coming to an end, he’s certain to remain in Arizona for the duration.
1B Junior Sanquintin: 0/10, 6 K, HBP
Sanquintin has been very impressive for the ACL Indians this year, especially when considering his positional change from SS/2B to 1B. That being said, he’s crumbling at the finish and hasn’t had a hit since September 2nd. He was given the last game off with very good reason.
