HIGHLIGHTS

Alex Call (Columbus, CF): 3-6, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Call has now hit ten home runs and driven in 20 in his first 43 games in Triple-A.  In the same number of games for Double-A Akron this season, he drove in three more runs but hit only half as many homers (although he hit more extra-base hits for Akron – 19 compared to 16 – thanks enlarge part to 13 Double-A doubles this season.

Oscar Gonzalez (Columbus, RF): 3-5, 2 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K – Gonzalez has been unstoppable lately.  Not only does he have an active eight-game hitting streak with five multi-hit games, but three of those multi-hit games have been his last three.  In those three games, Oscar is 8-for-16 (.500) with four runs scored and three driven in.  Not to mention an unbelievable 13 extra bases, eight of which came in last night’s game.  Gonzalez isn;t on the 40-man, but he’s doing everything in his power to play his way onto it this offseason.

Alexfri Planez (Lynchburg, CF): 4-5, 1 R, 2 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K – Planez’s offensive explosion took his solid August to another level.  He is now slashing .300/.327/.600 this month.  The .300 ISO is thanks to seven extra-base hits (two doubles, two triples, and three homers) out of 15 total hits in August.

Joey Cantillo (ACL, SP): ND, 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP – Cantillo was solid in a season-opening rehab start.  Hopefully, he is able to make a non-complex start before this season ends.

BEST OF THE REST

Trenton Brooks (Columbus, 1B): 3-6, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 K – Brooks is slashing .355/.459/.516 in august following this spectacular performance.

Nolan Jones (Columbus, 3B): 2-5, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K – Jones has turned things around as of late, going 5-for-14 (.357) and scoring six runs in his last three games after going 0-for-18 in the prior six contests.

Ryan Lavarnway (Columbus, DH): 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Lavarnway continues his post-Olympic dominance.  It seems like the trip to Tokyo and his stellar performance there for Team Israel did Ryan a lot of good.

Andruw Monasterio (Columbus, 2B): 2-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K – Monasterio;’s two doubles were his first in Triple-A (fourth game at the level).

Connor Marabell (Columbus, LF): 2-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K – During his four-game hitting streak, Marabell is 8-for-17 (.471) with seven RBI.

Bryan Lavastida (Akron, DH): 2-4, 2 RBI – Lavastida’s two-run single in the fifth gave the RubberDucks the lead and proved to be crucial to winning in regulation.

Peyton Battenfield (Akron, SP): W (1-0), 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R (earned), 7 K, 1 HBP – Battenfield has struck out 16 and walked only one batter in three starts since being traded to the Indians organization.

Tanner Tully (Akron, RP): S (1), 1 IP, perfect, 3 K – Tully struck out the side in order to convert his first save opportunity since 2017.

Hunter Gaddis (Lake County, SP): L (3-8), 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R (both earned), 3 K, 1 HR allowed, 1 WP, 1 HBP – While not spectacular, Gaddis was solid on the mound and threw a complete game (rare even in shortened contests in Single-A) to highlight an otherwise rough night for the Eastlake nine.

Johnathan Rodriguez (Lynchburg, RF): 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K – Rodriguez has two multi-hit games during this week’s series against the Red Sox.

Hugo Villalobos (Lynchburg, RP): 4 IP, 3 K – Villalobos was nearly perfect in four innings on the back end of the piggyback.  The last batter he faced reached on a throwing error but was tagged out trying to advance to second.  Hugo has hurled six scoreless frames in his last two outings.

Richard Paz (ACL, C): 2-5, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 K – Paz is not only hitting .400m but his nine extra-base hits (three doubles, one triple, and five homers) out of 24 total hits give him a .333 ISO.

Junior Sanquintin (ACL, DH): 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K – Sanquintin just keeps rolling, this time with his second multi-hit game in as many days.

Alaska Abney (ACL, RP): 1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K – Abney pitched a scoreless eighth to remain unscored upon in five innings in four relief appearances since being drafted in the 15th round this July.

Emilio Taveras (DSL Blue, C): 1-2, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI – Taveras’ second-inning double drove in the first two Indians Blue runs of a game that came within a half-inning of being official (and would’ve been official if played at the Indians Academy)..

Alan Romero (DSL Blue, 1B): 1-2, 1 RBI – Romero followed with a single for the other Indians Blue RBI so far (they would tack on a run each in the third and fifth, both on wild pitches).  This was his second career professional game and first at first base (caught in his first appearance), but the hit and RBI were both the second of each stat for Alan.
