Xzavion Curry (Lake County, SP): W (4-1), 5 IP, 1 H, 10 K – Lost in the (understandable) excitement of Jhonkensy-mania, Curry pitched his best outing as a Captains so far on the night his overall season strikeout total (including his Hlllcats stint) reached triple digits (104 with just 12 walks). Not bad for a guy who had never pitched a competitive game as a professional until this May.
Aaron Davenport (ACL, SP): ND, 1 IP, 4 K, 1 WP – Davenport struck out the side in order (plus one, thanks to a wild pitch) in his professional debut. I;m not sure what the Indians player development people are thinking, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this year’s sixth round pick isn’t in Goodyear for long.
Oscar Gonzalez (Columbus, RF): 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K – Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to seven games with his second straight multi-hit performance.
Brayan Rocchio (Akron, SS): 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB, 1 CS – Rocchio followed in the two hole with another three-hit game, his second in his last four.
Will Brennan (Akron, RF): 3-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Brennan came within a triple of the cycle as the leadoff hitter on a huge night for the RubberDuck lineup.
Bryan Lavastida (Akron, C): 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR – Lavastida continued his stellar form since his call up to the ‘Ducks (.333/.414/.533 with eleven RBI in 17 games).
Nolan Jones (Columbus, 3B): 1-4, 2 R 1 2B, 1 BB (intentional) – Jones has scored four runs in the last two days, equaling his total from his previous nine games.
Ryan Lavarnway (Columbus, C): 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB – Lavarnway’s three-run homer in the top of the ninth provided a cushion that Anthony Gose ultimately would not need in the bottom of the frame. Ryan is now slashing .391/.440/.783 since returning from the Olympics.
Jonathan Engelmann (Akron, 1B): 3-5, 2 R, 1 RBI – Engelmann’s second multi-hit game in a row extended his hitting streak to eight.
Jose Fermin (Akron, 3B): 2-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB – Fermin’s last six games have followed a “hitless, hitless, multi-hit” pattern.
Jhonkensy Noel (Lake County, 3B): 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 HBP – It didn’t take long for Noel to get the hang of this whole High-A thing, not only having a multi-hit night in his second game at the level, but also driving in a pair of runs with his first hit as a Captain.
Miguel Jerez (Lynchburg, 1B): 3-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Jerez’s three-run game included a two-run homer in the seventh that provided all of the Hillcat scoring.
Milan Tolentino (ACL, 3B): 2-4, 2 R – Tolentino continued an August almost as hot as Phoenix in the summer (slashing .375/.436/.625 with 13 RBI in 12 games).
Junior Sanquintin (ACL, 1B): 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI – Sanquintin has also been stellar this month, slashing .311/.365/.578 with 16 RBI in 12 games.
Jesus Montilla (DSL Blue, 2B): 2-4, 2 R – Montilla, who started the season with a trio of two-hit games, ended a seven-game multi-hit drought (August 9 excluded since it’s impossible to get multiple hits in a single plate appearance) on Thursday.
Juan Benjamin (DSL Blue, 3B): 2-4, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB – Benjamin’s fifth game as a professional was his best so far by a significant margin.
Junior Caminero (DSL Red, SS): 4-5, 2 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 E – Caminero equaled his hit total from his previous ten games in this offensive outburst.
Esteban Gonzalez (DSL Red, CF): 3-,51 R, 1 2B, 4 RBI, 1 K – Gonzalez quintupled his career RBI total in his fifth multi-hit game as a pro.
