Highlights

Lenny Torres (Lynchburg, SP): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K – Torres allowed a single in the first, then was perfect over the next three innings before allowing a double and walk in the fifth. He now has two five innings shut outs this year after making his best start of the season on July 3rd against Del Marva.

Marcos Gonzalez (Akron, 1B): 3/3, 2B, 2 RBI, R – Gonzalez reached the first time in the third with a single and advanced on a passed ball and error, but was stranded. He doubled home Bo Naylor in the fifth to tie the game at one, then singled in the seventh to score Jon Engelmann. This was part of an extended rally and Gonzalez ended up scoring on Andruw Monasterio’s single. He was removed in the eighth for pinch hitter Ike Freeman.

Best of the rest

Logan T. Allen (Akron, SP): 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 5 K, 0 BB – Allen allowed a solo home run to Erie in the first inning, then didn’t allow another hit or walk in his five innings. He did allow a runner to reach on a wild pitch and strike out in the fourth, but this ultimately lead to no runs and five strike outs making this is best start since his promotion to Akron.

Daniel Espino (Lake County, SP): 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 12 K – It was a bit of a weird, but exciting night for Espino. He struck out three in the first with just one ball thrown. He walked one in the second, but struck out the other three. In the third, he allowed two singles, then struck out one before another single. After another K, he allowed a triple leading to two more runs before striking out the final batter of the inning. In the fourth, he struck out two before one reached on an error by Micah Pries. he then struck out a batter for his 12th straight out. He was then pulled from the game after 81 pitches.

Micah Pries (Lake County, LF): 2/4, 4 RBI, R, 2B – Pries was hit by a pitch in the second and scored after two walks and a ground out. His next big at bat came up in the seventh when he doubled with the bases loaded to knock in three. Two innings later he added his second hit and fourth RBI when he singled home George Valera.

Zach Hart (Lynchburg, RP): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K – Hart joined the game in the sixth and allowed just one batter to reach on a walk in the seventh. He struck out four and maintained the Hillcats lead that was erased after he was pulled from the game in the ninth.

Gabriel Arias (Columbus, 3B): 1/3, 3 RBI, HR – Columbus fell behind early 8-0, but Arias started at least an attempt at a comeback. After two walked, Arias hit a three run homer for the first Clippers runs. Andres Gimenez doubled and Wilson Ramos hit a two run shot to complete the rally.

Korey Holland (Lynchburg, LF): 2/4, 2 R, SB – Holland didn’t reach until he hit a single in the seventh, but made the most of his night from then on out. He stole second, then scored on an Andres Melendez single. He then singled again in the ninth, moved up on a walk and scored his second run of the night on a Jhonkensy Noel pinch hit RBI single.

Yonaiker Garcia (DSL Red, RP): 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K, 3 BB – After a four inning first, Garcia came in for relief with two outs and a runner on second. He retired his first batter to end the threat, then stayed on for two more innings. In the second he walked two, but both runners were caught stealing. In the third, he struck out his second batter and walked his third, but picked him off to face the minimum over his 2.1 innings.

Reyden Hildalgo (DSL Blue, 3B): 2/4, 2 RBI – Hildalgo’s first hit yesterday wrapped up the scoring in the fourth as he singled home two runs and was thrown out trying to turn his single into a double. He then singled again in the fourth to load the bases, but was out on a line drive double play. This was his first career multi-hit and multi-RBI game.
