Highlights

Richie Palacios (Akron, 2B): 5/5, 2 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, SB – Akron came out screaming through the gate last night and the scoring started with a two run Palacios double in the first. In the third, he lead off the inning with a double and scored on Jon Engelmann’s double later in the inning. He reached again in the fifth on a single and stole second, but ended the inning there. He had one more single in the seventh, then another RBI single in the ninth to score Andruw Monasterio. He scored himself on an Ike Freeman single for the Ducks 11th and final run of the game.

Gabriel Arias (Columbus, SS): 3/5, HR, 2 R, SB – Arias’ first run came in the fourth after he reached on a fielder’s choice, but he had a more legitimate contribution in the fifth with a solo home run. He added another single and a steal in the seventh, but was stranded, then singled again in the ninth, but was stranded again ending the game at third with the Clippers down one.

Cody Morris (Akron, SP): 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6 K, 0 BB – Making just his second start since returning from a rehab assignment, Morris was impressive again against the Senators. He was treated to that early lead mentioned with Palacios, but made the most of it with a quick first that included two K’s. He allowed a single in the second, but struck out two more, then allowed another single in the third. He had single strike outs in the third and fourth before exiting the game after 64 pitches and a very dominant outing.

Bo Naylor (Akron, C): 2/4, 3 RBI, HR, 2 R – Naylor’s first RBI and run came in the first when he knocked in Jon Engelmann on a single and scored after a couple errors and an Ike Freeman single. Naylor knocked in Engelmann again in the third, this time with a two run homer.https://twitter.com/Official_IBI/status/1415485664620072961

George Valera (Lake County, RF): 2/7, 3 RBI, HR – While the Captains went a little nuts last night, Valera didn’t really get into it early on. He singled in the third, but the big blow for Valera and Lake County came in the fourth. That inning saw the first three batters reach, leading up to a three run home run for Valera as part of a seven run inning in a 15 run night.

Xzavion Curry (Lake County, SP): 6 IP, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 H, 5 K – Curry continued his excellent start to 2021 with his seventh start of at least four innings and one or fewer run allowed. He allowed a walk and a double in the second for his only run allowed of the night, striking out two to keep the damage to a minimum. He struck out two more in the third, then worked around a lead off double int he fourth. After a perfect fifth, he allowed two singles in the sixth, but ultimately escaped unscathed.

Brayan Rocchio (Lake County, SS): 3/4, 4 R, 2 HBP, BB, 2 RBI – Rocchio is on an insane run right now with a 4/4 night on July 13th running into three hits, two HBPs and a walk last night to give him ten straight plate appearances reaching base. Last night alone he singled and scored in the first, was hit in the third and was caught stealing then had an RBI single in the third and scored on Valera’s homer. He was hit again the next inning, moved up on a wild pitch and scored again. He singled in the sixth, then walked in the eighth before scoring on a Joe Naranjo triple. When he had a later plate appearance in the eighth, he knocked in a run, but was out, ending his ten straight plate appearances reaching base.

Angel Martinez (Lynchburg, SS): 4/5, SB, RBI, R – The Hillcats scored seven last night, but no hitter had a more solid night than Martinez, who wasn’t involved in the scoring until the tenth. He singled in the first, fourth and eighth, the last time stealing a base as well. His eighth inning hit advanced Petey Halpin to third which allowed him to score on a sacrifice fly and tie the game. In extras, Andres Melendez started on second and Martinez brought him home with his fourth single of the night. He then came all the way around to score the game winning run on a Cody Farhat double.
