Highlights

Logan T. Allen (Akron, SP): 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6 K – The start of Allen’s pro career was impressive enough as he finished his time in Lake County with a 1.58 ERA across 9 starts and 51.1 innings, but he added another level last night with four shut out innings in his AA debut. He allowed a single and struck out one in the first, then another single and struck out three in the third. He then struck out two more in a perfect fourth and was pulled after 56 pitches.

Yainer Diaz (Lynchburg, C): 3/4, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2B, HR – Lynchburg fell behind early, but tied the game up in the fourth thanks to Diaz. He doubled home the Hillcats first run of the game, then scored on Cody Farhat’s sac fly. After the Nationals regained the lead, Diaz tied it again in the sixth with a solo homer. Diaz’s third hit and run came in the eighth when he singled and scored on another Farhat hit.

Brayan Rocchio (Lake County, 2B): 4/4, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI – After Will Brennan hit a homer to lead off the game, Rocchio followed with a double and scored on a Joe Naranjo single. Hit hit an RBI single in the second, then a double in the fifth before he scored on a Bryan Lavastida homer. He added one more single in the sixth that scored Quentin Holmes and was standing on third when the game was delayed and eventually ended.

Alex Royalty (Lake County, SP): W, 5 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K – Prior to the rain delay, Royalty was well on the way to leading the Captains to victory. He allowed a double and single to start the game, but used a double play to finish the inning without score He gave up another double in the third and a single in the fifth, but made it through five without the Lugnuts scoring a run. He earned the win as the game ended due to rain.

Will Benson (Akron, LF): 2/4, 2 R, 2B, HR, BB – Benson walked in his first at bat, then homered in his second to give the Ducks a one run lead. Much later, in the ninth with the Ducks up seven, Benson doubled with one one. This lead to two more runs after a passed ball and Steven Kwan double.

Cody Farhat (Lynchburg, DH): 2/3, 2 RBI, HR, 2B – Farhat’s first RBI came in the fourth on a sac fly, but he really earned the next one as he homered in the sixth to give the Hillcats the lead. Coming up with Diaz on base again in the eighth, Farhat doubled to bring him home and gain a three run lead.

Yu Chang (Columbus, DH): 2/4, HR – If you’re looking to the farm report to see how J.C. Mejia and Brad Peacock did in last night’s start for the Clippers, just think about 16 runs over 3.1 innings and forget about it. Chang, on the other hand, hit a solo home run in the second inning for the only Clippers run, then added a single in the sixth before being out on a double play.

Milan Tolentino (Arizona, 2B): 1/2, GS, BB, 2 R, 4 RBI – The ACL Indians got off to an early lead last night with five in the first, four of which came courtesy of Tolentino. After four reached via walk, single or HBP and two were out, Tolentino hit a grand slam to push the score to 5-1 in the first. He then walked, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a Luis Durango double in the seventh.

Junior Caminero (DSL Indians Red, 3B): 2/4, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, HR – Caminero walked in the first, singled and scored in the sixth, reached on a fielder’s choice in the seventh, then hit a three run homer in the ninth. This home run gave the Indians a one run lead that was lost in the bottom half of nine. They would ultimately come back to win in 11.

Bienvenido Polanco (DSL Indians Blue, RP): W, 3.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 3 K, 0 BB – After Victor Garcia struggled a bit through the first 3.2 innings, Polanco came in early relief to slam the door. He did allow a double to start his outing, tagging a second run onto Garcia’s start, but he struck out the next hitter to end the fourth, then allowed just one more batter to reach when he hit a batter in the seventh. The Indians offense provided plenty to back up his and Luis Almonte’s performances as they scored 12 vs the A’s.
