HIGHLIGHTS

Julian Escobedo (ACL, starting CF): 3-5, 2 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 K – Escobedo equaled or bettered his total from the first six games of his rehab stint in every positive stat in the statline except for walks and stolen bases in this offensive explosion.  Yeah, I’d say he’s ready to return to Lynchburg.

Jordan Luplow (ACL, starting RF): 1-2, 1 R, 1 BB – Luplow took the field for the ACL Indians in a rare Major League Rehab appearance in Rookie ball. 

Micael Ramirez (ACL, C): 1-1, 4 R, 1 2B, 3 BB, 1 E, 1 HBP – Ramirez led off the second frame with his league-leading sixth double (in only 21 at-bats).  Unsurprisingly, he is slashing a superhuman .476/.613/.762.  I know it’s Arizona, but a .286 ISO with no home runs or triples is impressive, regardless of atmospheric conditions.

Angel Genao (DSL Blue, SS): 3-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB – Genao had a stellar day at the plate in his professional debut.  While this is the smallest of sample sizes, a 2.050 single-game OPS from a guy who’s never played professionally before makes one take notice.

OTHER REHAB APPEARANCE

Jhonkensy Noel (ACL, starting 3B): 0-2, 1 R, 1 BB – Noel continues to struggle in his rehab assignment.  Hopefully, it;s just rust from his month on the shelf and not lingering effects from his injury.

BEST OF THE REST

Jorge Burgos (ACL, backup RF): 1-3, 12B, 2 K – Like Ramirez, Burgos is also high on the ACL doubles list, his five two-baggers good for a share of second.

Junior Sanquintin (ACL, 1B): 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K – Sanquintin extended his season-opening on-base streak to eight games and continued his streak of getting a hit in every game he has played in July (seven so far).

Isaiah Greene (ACL, LF): 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K – Greene has reached base 19 times in 34 plate appearances, and one of the other 15 was a sacrifice fly.

Jose Pastrano (ACL, 2B): 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K – Pastrano is another of four Indians In the top ten (and ties) of the ACL doubles leaderboard.  He is tied for sixth with four (a tie which includes A-Tribe backstop Victor Planchart, who did not play last night).

Lexer Saduy (DSL Blue, LF): 1-3, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Saduy opened his professional hit account with an eighth-inning triple and scored his second pro run later that inning.

Juan Rodriguez (DSL Blue, DH): 0-1, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SF – Rodriguez’s pro debut was marked by good plate discipline.

Christopher Espinola (DSL Blue, CF): 1-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB – Espinola completed the trifecta of two-run nights by the bottom thie of the Indians Blue order.

Robert Cruz (DSL Blue, RP): 3 IP, 3 K – Cruz began his third season (in four years) in the DSL with three nearly perfect frames (second batter he faced reached on an error).  At 21 years old, a great season is crucial if he is to earn a ticket stateside to continue advancing through the organization.

Dahan Batista (DSL Blue, RP): 2 IP, perfect, 2 K – Batista, returning to the DSL following a 2019 rookie season that saw him post a 5.46 ERA, started his second competitive season on a much better note.

Fran Alduey (DSL Red, SS): 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SF, 1 SB, 1 E – Alduey drove in both of the Indians Red’s runs in their inaugural game.  Not a bad way to start one’s professional career.

Angel Mendoza (DSL Red, LF): 2-4, 1 R, 1 K, 2 SB – Mendoza stole a pair of bases to open his pro career.  Oh, and he outhit the entire Cubs Blue lineup.  Speaking of the Cubs Blue and hits…

Abel Brito (DSL Red, SP): 3.1 IP, 2 R (both unearned), 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP – Not the greatest way to start one;s career, especially in terms of control, but he didn’t allow any hits.

Felipito Santos (DSL Red, RP): 2.2 IP, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 WP – Santos also had control issues in his first game for a fully-Indians affiliated team (spent all of his 2019 rookie campaign with the now-defunct Indians/Brewers co-op), but continued the no-hitter through the sixth frame.

Logan Franco (DSL Red, RP): 3 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 K – While Franco, who is starting his third season in the DSL, allowed the lone Cubs Blue hit of the day in the eighth (no-hitter lasted 7.2 frames), he was also the only Indians Red pitcher to not throw a wild pitch or hit a batter.

Luis Garcia (DSL Red, RP): W (1-0), 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 WP – More control issues, but he kept the one-hitter intact and kept the game tied so that the offense could win it in the bottom of the tenth and earn him the individual victory in his first professional game.
