Highlights

Triston McKenzie (SP, Columbus): 5IP, 4H, 3ER, BB, 7K – It wasn’t overall a great line for McKenzie but the lack of walks is at least encouraging for him.

Gabriel Arias (SS, Columbus): 1-3, 2B, 2 R, 2 BB, SB – Even with just one hit, Arias stuffed the box score with two walks (both earned, not the intentional variety) and a steal on top of his double. Big night as he continues to grow into a more exciting offensive profile.

Will Benson (RF, Akron): 3-5, 2B, HR, RBi – Benson continues to be dynamic as a leadoff hitter for Akron. He has seven hits in his last two games – five singles, a homer and a double and now his OPS is over .900.

Oscar Gonzalez (LF, Akron): 2-4, HR 2 RBI – Though he missed extending his hitting streak to 18 the other night, Gonzalez came back to rip two more hits and a homer in this one in the “make Justin Lada look stupid tour.”

Miguel Jerez (1B, Lynchburg): 3-4, HR, 4 RBI – I had long forgotten about the 23 year old backstop who is in Low-A but had a big night in this loss.

Nolan Jones (3B, Columbus): 2-4, 2 R, BB – Jones was on base three times with two singles and a walk, though he did strike out once. His OPS has finally crept above .800.

Trenton Brooks (DH, Columbus): 1-5, 2B, 2 RBi, 4K – Four strikeouts is unusual for Brooks but he had a double that drove in two.

Gavin Collins (C, Columbus): 2-3, 2 RBI, BB – Collins has seen inconsistent playing time between different catchers being called up to fill in and other’s being designated for assignment with all the injuries.

Kyle Nelson (RP, Columbus): 1.1 IP, 2K – Nelson continues to be dandy in Triple-A, but the gap between Triple-A and the majors is quite big.

Mason Hickman (SP, Lake County): 6IP, 2H, 3ER, 2BB, 6K – Other than the two walks, Hickman made one bad pitch all night and was good around that one bad pitch with a good slider and changeup.

Nick Gallagher (RP, Lake County): 2IP, 3K – Gallagher was perfect in relief of Hickman and hit about 92 mph with a slider/cutter hybrid he’s been working on.

Gabriel Rodriguez (SS, Lynchburg): 2-4, 2B – Gabby-Rod was one of the higher ranked shortstop prospects in the system to start the year but has struggled for much of it so far.

Johnathan Rodriguez (RF, Lynchburg): 1-4, 3B, 2 RBI – Jo-Rod has been on the IL a bit this season but has hit well when he’s been healthy.
