HIGHLIGHTS

Zach Plesac (Akron, SP): 1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 earned), 1 BB, 2 K – Plesac’s first inning of competitive rehab went as well as could be hoped. Twelve pitches. Three up, three down led by a pair of strikeouts – the first – of of SS Cadyn Grenier – coming on only three pitches while the second was of C Adley Rutschman – now the top minor leaguer on FanGraphs dot com’s THE BOARD since Wander Franco’s call-up. The second inning was an entirely different story. Zach exhausted the remainder of his pitch count in a rough two-thirds of a frame that illustrated just how far he has to rebuild his stamina to the length of a major league start.

Roberto Perez (Akron, starting C): 0-1, 1 K – Perez struck out swinging in the first in his only plate appearance before being replaced behind the plate by Angel Lopez to start the third following a 53-minute rain delay.

Franmil Reyes (Akron, starting DH): 0-1, 1 K – Reyes struck out looking to end the opening frame in his only action of the night before being replaced by pinch-hitter Chris Roller to lead off the fourth.

Cam Hill (Columbus, RP); 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R (all earned), 2 BB, 1 HBP – Hill, the one rehab player still with the Clippers, skipped straight to the rough two-thirds of an inning. One one hand, this outing is more disconcerting than Plesac’s since he didn’t pitch a good inning and this isn’t his rehab debut. On the other hand, Hill pitched a near-perfect frame in his first outing of the season on Friday (walked one hitter). The fact that Hill went on this roadtrip with the Columbus side rather than being transferred to Akron seems to indicate that he will be assigned to Triple-A once his rehab ends (For those who don’t know, any rehab by a player on the 40-man counts as a Major League Rehab, regardless of his planned post-rehab destination.).

BEST OF THE REST

Andres Gimenez (Columbus, SS): 2-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 K – Gimenez extended his hitting streak to seven games with the Clippers’ only multi-hit performance of the night.

Owen Miller (Columbus, 2B); 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K – Miller’s RBI was only his third of June after driving in nine in May.

Nolan Jones (Columbus, RF): 1-4, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 2 K – Jones, on the other hand, continued his upward trajectory on Tuesday night as he continues to adjust to the Triple-A level.

Alex Call (Columbus, CF): 1-4, 1 K – Call singled to center to start the top of the ninth for his first Triple-A hit.

Francisco Perez (Columbus, RP): 1 IP, perfect – Perez has pitched 3.1 shutout frames in two games following a disastrous Triple-A debut (two earned runs in a third of an inning) last Tuesday.

Ben Krauth (Columbus, RP): 1 IP, perfect, 3 K – Krauth struck out the side in the eighth to remain unscored upon in 5.2 innings in three games this season.

Oscar Gonzalez (Akron, LF): 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K – Gonzalez’s two-out double (his eleventh of the season) drove in Roller for the only RubberDuck run of the game and his 36th RBI in 44 games this season.

Andruw Monasterio (Akron, SS); 2-3, 1 E – Monasterio has back to-to-back multi-hit games after not having any since May 29.

Jose Fermin (Akron, 3B): 2-3 – Fermin had the other multi-hit effort, his third in his last five games.

Kyle Marman (Akron, RP); 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K – Marman was the only RubberDuck pitcher to not allow any runs in Tuesday night’s shortened contest.

Angel Martinez (Lynchburg, SS): 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – Martinez, who is now slashing .295/.373/.521, was one of two Hillcats to reach base twice on a rough night for the Lynchburg nine.

Yainer Diaz (Lynchburg, C): 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB – Diaz was the other on a night he extended his hitting streak to eleven games.

Cody Farhat (Lynchburg, RF): 1-4, 1 3B, 1 K – Farhat’s triple was his twelfth extra-base hit (four doubles, five triples, three home runs) out of 32 total hits.

Eric Rodriguez (Lynchburg, RP): 1 IP, perfect – You know it wasn’t your pitching staff’s night when a POSITION. PLAYER. PITCHING. is the highlight of your night on the mound for reasons other than the novelty. That said, if the catching thing doesn’t work out for Eric, the Anthony Gose route might be an option for continuing his career.

Isaiah Greene (ACL, CF): 0-2, 1 R, 3 BB, 1 K, 1 CS, 1 E – Greene, who was one of four players acquired in the Lindor trade, kicked off his professional career with a trio of walks.

Micael Ramirez (ACL, C): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB – Ramirez, who needs a big season to progress to the full-season level as he is 22 and in his third season (in a four-year span) in the AZL/ACL, got off to an excellent start on Opening Day.

Luis Durango (ACL, RF): 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS – Durango had the ACL Tribe’s only multi-hit Opening Day in his pro debut.

Adrian Rodriguez (ACL, RP): 2.2 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 K – Rodriguez impressed in his stateside debut.

Hugo Villalobos (ACL, RP): 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 K – Villalobos did the same, including catching one of the two runners he allowed on the basepaths trying to steal third.
