Highlights

Richie Palacios (2B, Akron): 2-4, 2B, BB, BB – Palacios has gotten on base in 10 of his last 11 games, raising his OBP over .400, a big skill he had in college and has retained very well despite missing the better part of two years.

Josh Wolf (SP, Lynchburg): 4IP, 3H, 3K – Wolf has had a couple of rough starts after a strong start to the season and hasn’t missed a ton of bats, but he had good control in this one and only allowed three hits and threw 67% of his pitches for strikes in his four innings of work.

Zach Hart (RP, Lynchburg): 4IP, 2H, ER, BB, 8K – Like Wolf, Hart had a good start to the season out of the bullpen but has hit some rough patches lately. But his stuff was nearly unhittable in this one following Wolf and struck out eight of the 15 batters he faced.

Yordys Valdez (3B, Lynchburg): 2-4, 2B – This was just Valdez’s fourth multi-hit game but also his first extra base hit of the season. Valdez is known for his glove and is just 19.

Jerson Ramirez (RP, Lynchburg): IP, 0H, 0ER – Ramirez’s line looks average. He didn’t strike anyone out, or even pick up a save. But four days ago Ramirez allowed the first run on his line of the 2021 campaign and bounced back in this win with another scoreless outing. He’s allowed just one run in 14.1 innings now.

Christian Cairo (2B, Lynchbug): 2-5, 2B, SB – Cairo hasn’t done much with the bat worth writing about this year but led this one off with a double and scored a run in the Hillcats two-run first.

Trenton Brooks (1B, Akron): 2-4, 2 RBI – Brooks drove in a run in the fifth and seventh with a pair of singles.

Scott Moss (SP, Columbus): 3IP, 2H, ER, BB, 5K (49 pitches) – Maybe Moss’ best outing all year as he builds back up from missing a week with an arm issue.

Chris Roller (RF, Akron): 2-3, RBI, SB – It hasn’t been a great start to the season for Roller but he has six total bases in the last two games.

Jhonkensey Noel (DH, Lynchburg): 1-1 – Noel’s line isn’t very significant other than this was just his second game back since hurting his hand when he was hit by a pitch two Sunday’s ago and missed nearly 10 days. He left early in this one after an awkward slide into second base. No word on how serious this injury is.

Alex Call (CF, Akron): 1-3, 2B, RBi – Call continued his strong season, especially his start to June in this one. He has two homers and two doubles and four RBI.

Nick Mikolajchak (RP, Akron): 1.2IP, K – That is 12 scoreless innings over nine appearances with 18 strikeouts for Mikolajchak now and four saves. With Anthony Gose and DJ Johnson away for the Olympics in Columbus and Blake Parker now up in Cleveland, there may be some innings open for Mikolajchak in Columbus if Cleveland wants to give him the bump here soon.

WIll Brennan (CF, Lake County): 1-3, 3 K – The actual reason to list Brennan’s line is the three strikeouts he suffered. All thre were swinging against Dayton starter Graham Ashcraft. It was the first time all year he struck out three times and just the third time he’s had a multi-strikeout game in 92 at bats.

Oscar Mercado (LF, Columbus): 1-4, 3B, RBi – While Mercado had a horrid May, the month of June has been much, much better for him. He’s got two homers, a triple and two doubles this month so far and two doubles. He has a 1.593 OPS in five June games now.
