It wasn’t a good week in Lake County. LHP Logan T. Allen turned in the best start of anyone in the rotation, though Tanner Burns did as well, no shock. The rest of the pitching staff hit some blips in the rotation and the bullpen. The young offense is also hitting some skids. Will Brennan and Jose Tena have carried the offense as best they can, but Brennan didn’t have a huge week and while they got some big individual days from the likes of Brennan, Aaron Bracho, Brayan Rocchio and others, none came in the same game aside from a lopsided loss and a game the pitching staff couldn’t stop walking people. It’s part of being a roster full of teenagers on offense and a lot of arms that didn’t throw competitively last season. Hope could be on the horizon as Lycnhrbug could be sending some arms Lake County’s way in a few weeks and George Valera could be back by the end of this home stand or close to it.

Player of the Week

INF Jose Tena: 8/20, 4 2B, SB

It wasn’t the best offensive week for the Captains scoring just a total of 18 runs, and half of those coming in one game, but Tena continues to do more than hold his own at 19 in High-A after having very little stateside experience. He’s still having issues against left handers but he still finished May with an .815 OPS and is starting June off on a strong note.

Who’s Hot:

LHP Logan T. Allen: 6IP, 2H, BB, 5K

Allen lowered his ERA under 1.00 with his most recent start and continues to outwit hitters in High-A in his pro debut. Every turn he takes in the rotation he puts out a consistent start and even though the Captains didn’t win his start, it was by far the best start they got from anyone in their rotation last week.

RHP Jared Janczak: 4.1IP, 2H, 2R (1ER), 3BB, 2K

Janczak was the only reliever that held down the fort for the Captains and gave them chances to stay close in this losing streak. His numbers weren’t spectacular with whiffs or walks but he kept runs off the board when he pitched for the most part. It didn’t help them get a win in the long run, but he was one of the few top performers this week.

Who’s Not

INF Raynel Delgado: 2/15 2BB, 6K

Delgado was lauded for his approach and ability to work walks but he’s struggled this past week. He’s not the only Captains hitter struggling but he’s one of the older hitters and he’s yet to find any footing so far.

LHP Raymond Burgos: 2.2 IP, 4H, 3ER, BB, K

Not to kick someone when they’re down but there may be a reason Burgos has struggled since his sparkling first start. He has struggled his last two outings and now he’s back on the injured list with an elbow issue. He’s already had Tommy John surgery, biceps tendonitis and a stress reaction. It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Burgos.
