Highlights

Eli Morgan (SP, Columbus): 6IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 6K – Morgan got up to six innings in this one after two short starts to start the year both due to starting his spring late with an elbow issue and getting hit some in his first start starts.

Nolan Jones (3B, Columbus): 2-4, HR, 2 K – Jones has really scuffled to start his time in Triple-A, but now has five hits in his last four games including a modest four game hitting streak. The homer he hit tonight was an absolute tank.

Jhonkensey Noel (1B, Lynchburg): 3-6, 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI – Noel had sort of cooled off after a hot start but he cranked two more homers in this marathon game for the Hillcats. He doubled in the fourth, smacked a two run homer in the seventh to bring them back to within two runs and then hit a game tying homer in the ninth. He was walked in the 13th inning rather than the Pelicans letting him beat them again.

Yordys Valdez (SS, Lynchbug): 3-5, RBI – Valdez had just three hits all year coming into this one and needed a few of them to go his way to get him going back in the right direction. His third hit of the night game was a 2-out, game-tying homer in the 12th inning.

Yainer Diaz (C, Lynchbug): 3-7, RBI – Diaz had a bases loaded single to give the Hillcats a big comeback win after being down 9-0 and the two teams traded runs in the 10th, 11th and 12th.

Best of the Rest

Raynel Delgado (3B, Lake County: 1-4, HR, 2 RBI – Delgado notched his first homer this year, providing all the Captains run tonight

Oscar Gonzalez (RF, Akron): 1-4, HR, 2 RBI – Gonzalez blasted his fifth homer this season and this one gave Akron the lead in the sixth inning and proved as the winning runs. Gonzalez walked the first week of the season but hasn’t walked since. He only has 13 strikeouts, but his approach at the plate is a drawback and makes him need power like this to be productive.

Will Brennan (CF, Lake County): 1-2, 2BB – Brennan now has eight walks to seven strikeouts. He’s always had a good approach at the plate and walked more than he struck out a lot in college. He’s been on base in all but one of the 13 games he’s played in this season. He had an eight game hitting streak to start the season before that one game he didn’t get a hit or draw a walk. Now he’s up to four games in a row with a hit again.

Tanner Burns (SP, Lake County): 4.2IP, 7H, 5ER, BB, 3K – This certainly isn’t a ‘best’ of the rest performance but it seemed newsworthy to note this was his worst start as a pro so far. Burns pitched well allowing a run through the first three innings and then a walk, hit, and a homer put three on the board and then in the fifth, with two outs he allowed a hit and Jared Janczak relieved him and allowed a homer with one run being charged to Burns.

Daniel Johnson (CF, Columbus): 1-3, HR, 2BB – Johnson joined Jones in hitting a mammoth blast in this one out in Toledo, a solo shot in the sixth inning to put the Clippers up 1-0. Johnson is playing much better lately after a slow start and has seen his share of starts in center.

Owen Miller (LF, Columbus): 1-4 – Not a noteworthy offensive night for Miller. However, amid the speculation this week and Friday that a callup was imminent for Miller, he wound up playing his first professional game in the outfield in this one. If the club plans to increase his versatility to the outfield, it could be more games of him getting comfortable out there before he gets a look. He probably only has the arm for left field as it is. He was 1-1 on putouts with one fly ball sent his way along with a pair of base hits he fielded just fine.

Nick Mikolajchak (RP, Akron): IP, 3 K, S – Mikolajchak dialed it up to 97 in his second save of the campaign while throwing 10 of 15 pitches for strikes.

Francisco Perez (RP, Akron): 1.1IP, 2K – Perez is also up to close to 95 or so on the radar gun in his relief outings and like Mikolajchak hasn’t allowed a run out of the ‘Ducks bullpen.

Will Bartlett (1B, Lynchbug): 2-6, HR, 2 RBi – Barlett managed to hit a big homer in the fifth inning of this long affair despite also racking up a Golden Sombrero with four strikeouts.

Alexfri Planez (RF-CF): 2-6, 2B, SB – Planez was struggling badly the way Valdez was and needed a night with a few hits and also showed off his speed on the bases for his third steal.
