HIGHLIGHTS

Will Brennan (Lake County, CF): 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB – While his numbers haven’t been flashy (no home runs and only three multi-hot games in eight played), Brennan has quietly and consistently performed at the plate night in and night out. On Thursday, he extended his season-opening hitting streak, which has seen him hit five doubles out of his sixteen hits, drive in five runs and steal a trio of bases. It all adds up to a very quiet, but very consistent, .910 OPS.

Raymond Burgos (Lake County, SP): ND, 3 IP, 2 H, 4 K – While he only went three innings in his first start in 727 days, but he dominated in those that short time frame, including striking out the first two batters swinging en route to a perfect opening frame. While it will take some time for Raymond to return to a full workload, it seems that he hasn’t missed a beat in terms of quality.

BEST OF THE REST

Owen Miller (Columbus, SS): 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K – Miller continues to rake for the Clippers. Four three-hit games and a two-hit effort in his last seven games makes a strong case for a call-up. How these numbers will translate to the big league level, however, remains to be seen. The lone possible criticism of his current form, however, is that he is somewhat feast-or-famine as the other two games in that stretch have been hitless (Opening Day is his only one-hit game so far this season).

Gabriel Arias (Columbus, 2B-3B): 3-4, 1 R. 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 HBP – As impossible as it may seem, Arias outshone Miller at the plate yesterday with a an extra-base hit (a third-inning RBI double that scored Miller) and a trio of RBI.

Kyle Dowdy (Columbus, RP): 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 WP – Dowdy not only kept his ERA untainted, but also prevented the lone inherited runner from scoring also.

Manuel Alvarez (Columbus, RP): 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP – Alvarez improved upon his season debut by not allowing any unearned runs either on Thursday afternoon.

Tyler Freeman (Akron, SS): 2-5, 1 R 1 K – Freeman extended his on-base streak to seven games (dating back to Opening day) with this multi-hit performance.

Alex Call (Akron, RF): 2-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI – Call drove in the RubberDucks’ first run of the evening on a sixth-inning double. Call also extended a season-opening on-base streak, which now stands at six games.

Trenton Brooks (Akron, 1B): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI – Brooks drove in the remaining three runs (including Call) on a homer to right-center later in the same inning.

Oscar Gonzalez (Akron, DH): 3-4, 1 K – Gonzalez’s three-hit effort was his third multi-hit game in his last five played.

Francisco Perez (Akron, RP): 3.1 IP, 2 BB, 5 K – Perez continued his stellar start to the season, which has seen him throw eight shutout innings of one-hit baseball (.040 opponents’ AVG) with a 12:4 K:BB ratio.

Dakody Clemmer (Akron, RP): 1.1 IP, 4 K, 1 HBP – Clemmer continues to be a K Machine, striking out four batters in each of his three outings this season (12 of the 14 outs he has recorded, good for a 23.14 K/9).

Brayan Rocchio (Lake County, SS): 2-5, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 K – Rocchio’s night at the plate started with a bang, specifically a line-drive RBI triple to right.

Victor Nova (Lake County, LF): 3-4, 3 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI – Nova broke out of a two-game 0-for-5 mini-slump in grand fashion with this offensive explosion.

Kevin Coulter (Lake County, RP): W (2-0), 4 IP, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 1 HBP – Despite some control issues, the 33rd rounder from the 2019 draft was stellar in long relief and deservedly picked up his second relief win in as many outings.

Jared Janczak (Lake County, RP): 1 IP, perfect, 1 K – Janczak closed out the evening’s proceedings in Eastlake with a perfect ninth for his first scoreless non-complex outing.

Yordys Valdes (Lynchburg, SS): 0-5, 2 RBI,1 K – Valdes drove in both of the Hillcats’ runs on Thursday despite continuing to struggle at the plate (.087/.185/.087). Both came on groundouts, the latter a fielder’s choice.

Micah Pries (Lynchburg, DH): 3-5, 1 2B – Pries, who has a hit in each of the six full games he has played this season, accrued three base hits for the second time in his last three games to continue his scorching start to the season (1.300 OPS).

Will Bartlett (Lynchburg, 1B): 1-2, 2 BB – Bartlett also has a 1.300 OPS to start the season (six games) and padded the OBP portion of that stat on Thursday evening.

Andrew Misiaszek (Lynchburg, RP): 2.1 IP< 1 H, 3 K – Misaszek gave up his first hit of the season, but also avoided walking a batter for the first time in 2021. The walk stat is a bit misleading, however, as it’s only two walks (one in each of his first appearances of the season) compared to ten strikeouts.
