TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 7, NARANJEROS DE HERMOSILLO 6 (10 INNINGS – CULIACAN WINS CHAMPIONSHIP 4-3)
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 0-3, 1 BB, 2 Sac Bunts – Chavez’s Serie Final struggles continued into Game 7, but right now, he’s not thinking about any of that. He’s basking in the glow of being a champion (and likely getting on a redeye flight to Mazatlan).
CANBERRA CAVALRY 8, SYDNEY BLUE SOX 4 (GAME 1 – 7 INNINGS)
Samad Taylor (2B, Canberra Cavalry): 4-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 E – Taylor got his batting average over .300 (.302) with this offensive explosion.
SYDNEY BLUE SOX 7, CANBERRA CAVALRY 2 (GAME 2 – 7 INNINGS)
Samad Taylor (CF, Canberra Cavalry): 2-3, 1 BB – Taylor went 6-for-7 with 3 RBI in Saturday’s doubleheader while playing two extremely different positions in the field.
Shawn Morimando (SP, Canberra Cavalry): L (2-2), 6 IP, 7 H, 7 R (all earned), 2 BB, 8 K – Morimando more than doubled his runs allowed total (five, only three of them earned, in his first five starts of the season) in his worst outing of the Australian campaign.
MELBOURNE ACES 22, BRISBANE BANDITS 2
Andrew Campbell (DH, Brisbane Bandits): 2-4, 1 RBI, 2 K – Campbell was one of two Bandits with two hits and an RBI on Saturday (SS Logan Wade was the other). The rest of the Brisbane lineup posted a combined 3-for-18 with a run, four walks, and five strikeouts. Clink the boxscore link above if you want to rubberneck the six-car pileup that is the Bandits’ pitching stat lines.
