VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP) PLAYOFFS – SERIE FINAL GAME 4 (BEST-OF-7)
CARIBES DE ANZOATEGUI 8, CARDENALES DE LARA 7 (10 INNINGS – CARIBES WIN CHAMPIONSHIP 4-0)
CURRENT INDIAN
Andruw Monasterio (backup 2B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 0-1 – Monasterio entered the game in the top of the ninth for his first (and only) action of the Serie.
FORMER INDIANS
Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 1-6, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K – Rivero gave the Cardenales an early 3-0 lead with his one-out homer in the top of the first.
Ezequiel Carrera (PR-backup LF, Cardenales de Lara): 0-1, 1 R, 1 K – Carrera had a pair of outfield assists despite only playing four innings.
Yonathan Mendoza (PH, Cardenales de Lara): 0-0, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Mendoza finished his Venezuelan campaign with a bases-loaded walk in the seventh that tied the game at five.
Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzooategui): 3-5, 3 RBI, 1 BB – Romero had two RBI base hits that proved crucial to the outcome. The first came in the bottom of the eighth, when he drove in two runs to give the Caribes a 7-6 lead. The second run would prove important as it ultimately sent the game to extras since the Cardenales responded with a run in the top of the ninth. Two frames later, he sent a two-out line drive to the right field wall to drive in pinch runner Christhian Pedroza and clinch the Venezuelan title for the Anzoategui nine.
Henry Martinez (RP, Caribes de Anzoategui): 0 IP, 1 H, 2 R (both earned), 2 BB – Remember that six-inning shutout streak? Yeah, that’s over. Doesn’t really matter now, however, thanks to Romero’s stellar clutch hitting.
