CAIMANES DE BARRANQUILLA 8, VAQUEROS DE MONTERIA 2 (SERIES TIED 3-3)

CURRENT INDIAN

Dayan Frias (backup SS, Vaqueros de Monteria): no plate appearances – Frias made his Serie Final debut playing two innings in the field.

FORMER iNDIAN

Sandy Leon (C, Caimanes de Barranquilla): 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K – Leon was the definition of feast-or-famine in Game 6, striking out swinging thrice and scoring as a result of his other plate appearance.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP) PLAYOFFS – SERIE FINAL GAME 2 (BEST-OF-7)

CARIBES DE ANZOATEGUI 1, CARDENALES DE LARA 0 (11 INNINGS – CARIBES LEAD SERIES 2-0)

FORMER INDIANS

Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-5, 1 2B, 2 K – Romero hit a leadoff double on the fourth pitch of the game. No further extra-base hits were added to the scorecard in the nearly eleven innings of baseball that followed.

Henry Martinez (RP, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1 IP, perfect – Martinez was one of two pitchers (both for the Caribes) to throw a perfect inning as the entirety of their outing. The other was Liarvis Breto, who preceded Henry on the mound with a perfect sixth frame.

Cesar Hernandez (2B, Cardenales de Lara): 1-3, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 E – Hernandez was the only man to reach base three times in last evening’s pitchers’ duel, thanks in large part to drawing one-third of all the walks issued in the game.

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 0-4 – This game was more like Games 4-6 of the semifinals series than his last two games for Rivero.

Yonathan Mendoza (PH, Cardenales de Lara); 0-1, 1 K – Mendoza struck out swinging on a full count to end the tenth in his first plate appearance in four days.

Ezequiel Carrera (RF, Cardenales de Lara): 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K – An eleven-inning 1-0 game is going to be filled with missed opportunities, and this one was no exception. Carrera was one of seven players to leave a runner on base with two outs yesterday. The only other Cardenal to do so was also a former Indians prospect (Mendoza).

Yapson Gomez (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB – Gomez allowed the eventual winning run to score as an inherited runner.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC) PLAYOFFS – SERIE FINAL GAME 3 (BEST-OF-7)

CRIOLLOS DE CAGUAS 7, INDIOS DE MAYAGUEZ 3 (CAGUAS LEADS SERIES 3-0)

FORMER INDIAN

Saul Rivera (RP, Indios de Mayaguez): 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB – Rivera was one of many Mayaguez pitchers who struggled on Saturday to bring the Indios to the brink of elimination.

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP) PLAYOFFS – SERIE FINAL GAME 2 (BEST-OF-7)

TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 6, NARANJEROS DE HERMOSILLO 1 (SERIES TIED 1-1)

FORMER INDIAN

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 1-5, 3 K, 1 E – Chavez is hitting .136 (3-for-22) in his last six games with no extra-base hits and a 4:2 K:BB ratio.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE (ABL)

CANBERRA CAVALRY 7, SYDNEY BLUE SOX 1 (7 INNINGS – GAME 1)

FORMER INDIANS

Samad Taylor (CF, Canberra Cavalry); 0-3, 1 R. 1 BB, 2 K – Taylor extended hos scroing streak to three games for the second time this season thanks to a seventh-inning walk.

Shawn Morimando (SP, Canberra Cavalry): CG, W (2-1), 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R (unearned), 11 K – Morimando needed only 99 pitches (69 of them strikes!) to dominate the Blue Sox lineup on Saturday. I know it’s only a seven-inning game, but in 2021, any complete game is a legitimately impressive accomplishment.

CANBERRA CAVALRY 3, SYDNEY BLUE SOX 1 (7 INNINGS – GAME 2)

FORMER INDIAN

Samad Taylor (CF, Canberra Cavalry): 0-1, 3 BB – While he couldn’t extend the run streak to four games, Taylor had no trouble getting on base in the nightcap thanks to his first multi-walk game of the season.

BRISBANE BANDITS 3, MELBOURNE ACES 2

FORMER INDIAN

Andrew Campbell (DH, Brisbane Bandits): 0-5, 2 K – Campbell failed to reach base for only the fourth time in twelve games this season.
