VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP) PLAYOFFS – SEMIFINALS GAME 5 (BEST-OF-7)

NAVEGANTES DEL MAGALLANES 13, CARIBES DE ANZOATEGUI 5 (MAGALLANES LEADS SERIES 3-2)

CURRENT INDIAN

Andruw Monasterio (SS, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – After not seeing the field in the first three games of the semifinals series, Monasterio has shone in Games 4 and 5, going a combined 3-for-8 (.375), with a run, double, walk, and strikeout (.444 OBP and .500 SLG round out the slash line).

FORMER INDIANS

Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 0-5, 1 K – Romero went hitless for the first time in this postseason and snapped an eight-game hitting streak stretching back to the regular season (last hitless game on January 6).

Anthony Vizcaya (RP, Navegantes del Magallanes): 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R (earned), 1 K – Vizacaya’s earned run was his first given up since the day after Christmas, breaking a five-game, 5.2-inning streak.

TIGRES DE ARAGUA 6, CARDENALES DE LARA 4 (LARA LEADS SERIES 3-2)

FORMER INDIANS

Cesar Hernandez (SS, Cardenales de Lara): 1-4, 1 R, 1 K – Hernandez has reached base in all five games of the semifinals series so far, including a four-walk Game 3 that played a large part in his gaudy .187 isolated plate discipline and 3:6 K:BB ratio.

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 0-4, 1 K, 1 E – Rivero is hitless in his last two games following an 8-for-13 start to the postseason.

Yonathan Mendoza (PH, Cardenales de Lara): 0-0, 1 R, 1 BB – Mendoza’s official postseason at-bat count remains at one despite playing in four of the Cardenales’ five games so far.

Ezequiel Carrera (PH, Cardenales de Lara): 0-1, 1 K – Carrera has also seen infrequent playing time in the postseason, seeing only six plate appearances despite playing in every game.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC) PLAYOFFS – SEMIFINALS GAME 3 (BEST-OF-7)

INDIOS DE MAYAGUEZ 20, ATENIENSES DE MANATI 7 (MAYAGUEZ LEADS SERIES 3-0)

CURRENT INDIAN

Johnathan Rodriguez (backup RF, Atenienses de Manati): 0-0, 1 BB – For the second time in as many games since the series restarted, Rodriguez comes in as the backup RF and reaches base on a walk.

FORMER INDIAN

Fernando Cabrera (RP, Atenienses de Manati): 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 K – Cabrera’s postseason debut was only his second outing of the season following a lone regular season appearance in which he also pitched two-third of an inning, As desperate as going to a guy who only pitched once in the regular season to get you out of the seventh may seem, things got even worse in the ninth when the Atenienses were reduced to placing designated hitter Yadier Molina (yes, that Yadier Molina) on the mound to get Blowout 2: Mayaguez Boogaloo mercifully over with. for those keeping score at home, that’s 50-15 Mayaguez over the two days since the restart. The Atenienses have to be like “We waited a week an a half (including nearly a week of practices) for this?”.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM) PLAYOFFS – SERIE FINAL GAME 7 (BEST-OF-7)

AGUILAS CIBAENAS 7, GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 4 (AGUILAS WIN THEIR 22ND CHAMPIONSHIP 4-3)

FORMER INDIANS

Melky Cabrera (starting RF, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0-3, 1 BB – After slashing .302/.337/.438 in the regular season, Cabrera struggled in the playoffs, hitting below the Mendoza Line in both rounds with the lone offensive highlight of the postseason being his ,154 ISO in the semifinals series thanks to a double and a homer being among his five hits in that round.

Gabriel Arias (RP, Gigantes del Cibao): 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 K – Arias allowed an earned run in his season debut on November 17. After not pitching for two full weeks, he allowed an unearned run in his return on December 2, starting a streak of eight games and 12.1 innings without an earned run allowed. After giving up another unearned tally in his next outing, Arias shut out his opponents in his last six outings (9.1 IP).
