VAQUEROS DE MONTERIA 8, TIGRES DE CARTAGENA 3

CURRENT INDIANS

Dayan Frias (backup 3B/SS, Vaqueros de Monteria): 1-2 – Frias came off the bench and played two positions in the flurry of substitutions that marked this Round robin finale for the Vaqueros.

Gaspar Palcio (2B, Tigres de Cartagena): 1-4, 1 R – Palacio;s hit and subsequent run came in the bottom of the ninth when the Tigres staged a mini-comeback punctuated by a three-run homer off the bat of PH Victor De Hoyos.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE (LVBP) PLAYOFFS – SEMIFINALS GAME 1 (BEST-OF-7)

CARIBES DE ANZOATEGUI 12, NAVEGANTES DEL MAGALLANES 9 (ANZOATEGUI LEADS SERIES 1-0)

FORMER INDIANS

Robert Zarate (RP, Navegantes del Magallanes): 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 K – Zarate was one of three Navegantes relievers to pitch in the sixth. Each got one out while allowing a pair of hits and at least one earned run. Even a nine-run night isn’t enough to overcome this rough of a night on the mound.

Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 2-3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 K, 2 HBP – A very productive, albeit very painful, night for Romero at the plate.

Henry Martinez (RP, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R (both earned), 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR allowed – To be fair to the Navegantes’ pitching staff, there were some mound clunkers on the Anzoategui side, too.

CARDENALES DE LARA 7, TIGRES DE ARAGUA 6 (LARA LEADS SERIES 1-0)

FORMER INDIANS

Alex Monsalve (starting C, Tigres de Aragua): 1-3, 1 2B – Monsalve hit his first double of 2021 after getting only two singles in his four regular season contests since the start of the new year.

Cesar Hernandez (SS, Cardenales de Lara): 2-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB – Hernandez hit the ground running in his winter season debut, getting on base four times and driving in nearly half of the Cardenales’ runs, including two on a two-out single in the eighth to give Lara the 7-6 lead they would finish the game with.

Carlos Rivero (3B-1B, Cardenales de Lara): 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – The Cardenales entered the bottom of the eighth down 6-4. Their first run of the inning came on a leadoff homer to left center by Rivero.

Ezequiel Carrera (PH-RF, Cardenales de Lara): 0-1, 1 K – Carrera struck out in the lone plate appearance of his Cardenales debut after being released by the Navegantes.

Yonathan Mendoza (PH, Cardenales de Lara): 0-1 – Mendoza also failed to reach base in his only time at the plate in Game 1.

Yapson Gomez (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R (both earned) – Yeah, it wasn’t the finest night for pitching in the Venezuelan circuit.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM) PLAYOFFS – SERIE FINAL GAME 3 (BEST-OF-7)

AGUILAS CIBAENAS 6, GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 3 (GIGANTES LEAD SERIES 2-1)

FORMER INDIANS

Melky Cabrera (starting RF, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0-5 – Cabrera went hitless for the second straight night to continue a rough Serie (1-for-12).

Robel Garcia (LF, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – Garcia didn’t get a hit on Wednesday night, but he did score his first run since a two-run performance in Game 5 of the semifinals series.

Derrick Loop (RP, Gigantes del Cibao): 0.2 IP, perfect – Loop has allowed only one earned run on two hits in two innings of work across three postseason appearances for the Gigantes.

Gabriel Arias (RP, Gigantes del Cibao): 1 IP, perfect – Arias has not allowed a run in his last 7.2 innings (five appearances including a five-inning spot start on December 19).

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP) PLAYOFFS – SEMIFINALS GAME 2 (BEST-OF-7)

TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 6, YAQUIS DE OBREGON 1 (CULIACAN LEADS SERIES 2-0)

FORMER INDIAN

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 2-5, 1 R, 1 E – While not as spectacular as Tuesday’s two-run effort, Chavez went 2-for-5 again to keep his semifinals batting average at exactly .400.

NARANJEROS DE HERMOSILLO 2, SULTANES DE MONTERREY 1 (HERMOSILLO LEADS SERIES 2-0)

FORMER INDIAN

Jeff Johnson (RP, Sultanes de Monterrey): L (0-1 in the playoffs, 3-1 overall), BS (1 in playoffs), 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 earned), 2 BB – Johnson’s uncharacteristic rough outing cost the Sultanes the game and a split on the road to start the semifinals series.

PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC) PLAYOFFS – STATUS UPDATE

The LBPRC semifinals series between the Indios de Mayaguez and Atenienses de Manati is currently on hold due to five coronavirus cases on the Indios. The Atenienses are healthy and were allowed to restart practice on Monday. Yesterday, the league announced that the postseason will resume on Sunday. If the Indios are cleared, then the semifinals series will resume with up to three days of doubleheaders. If not, then the Atenienses will start the Championship Series Sunday against the Criollos de Caguas, who have already qualified for the final round by sweeping RA12.
