CAIMANES DE BARRANQUILLA 8, TIGRES DE CARTAGENA 4
Gaspar Palacio (PH, Tigres de Cartagena): 0-1, 1 K – Palacio, the only current Indian to play on Tuesday night, struck out swinging to end the game.
Audy Ciriaco (3B, Caimanes de Barranquilla): 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS, 1 E – While not as impressive as his Monday effort (3-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 4 RBI), Ciriaco still drove in a run.
Sandy Leon (C, Caimanes de Barranquilla): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K – Leon’s only hit was of the extra-base variety for the second straight game, even if it wasn’t a three-run homer like he hit in the sixth on Monday night.
Caimanes de Barranquilla – 5-3
Vaqueros de Monteria – 4-3
Tigres de Cartagena – 2-5
The Caimanes and Vaqueros have qualified for the championship series, but the Tigres will finish their season tonight against the Vaqueros to complete the Round Robin.
GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 6, AGUILAS CIBAENAS 2 (GIGANTES LEAD SERIES 2-0)
Paolo Espino (SP, Gigantes del Cibao): W (1-0 in Serie Final and Playoffs, 3-3 overall), 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R (both earned), 5 K – Espino excelled in his first start for a LIDOM team other than the Toros del Este (in his career, not just this season) to lead the Gigantes to the halfway point of their journey toward a Dominican title and a trip to Mazatlan for the Serie del Caribe.
Melky Cabrera (LF, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0-3, 1 Sac Bunt – Cabrera’s sacrifice bunt in the first inning advanced CF Juan Lagares to third base. Lagares would score the Aguilas’ second, and final, run of the evening on the next at-bat thanks to a ground ball single to left field by 1B Rangel Ravelo.
Robel Garcia (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas): 1-4, 2 K – Garcia ended his three-game mini-slump with a two-out line-drive single to right in the seventh.
TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 10, YAQUIS DE OBREGON 7 (CULIACAN LEADS 1-0)
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 2-5, 2 R, 1 2B – Chavez, like the Tomateros as a team, started the penultimate phase of the Pacific circuit’s postseason with a prodigious offensive outburst.
In the other game (no current or former Indians played), the Naranjeros de Hermosillo defeated the Sultanes de Monterrey 2-0 to take the opening game of their semifinals series.
No current or former Indians were selected in the LVBP refuerzo draft.
