PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE (LBPRC)

CRIOLLOS DE CAGUAS 10, RA12 3

Angel Lopez Alvarez (C, RA12): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – Lopez Alvarez’s leadoff homer in the fourth inning was his second extra-base hit of the season, both of them homers, and his third hit of the Puerto Rican campaign. That’s a .136 average with a ,273 ISO!

Joab Gonzalez (2B, RA12): 1-4, 2 K – Gonzalez picked up his fourth hit of the season on Friday. Unlike Lopez Alvarez, all of Joab’s are singles.

TIGRES DE CARTAGENA 14, GIGANTES DE BARRANQUILLA 7

CURRENT INDIANS

Daniel Aguilar (CF, Gigantes de Barranquilla): 0-4, 1 R, 1 RBI – Despite going hitless, Aguilar drove in a run on a seventh-inning groundout and scored after reaching on a fielder’s choice in the ninth. He has now scored six runs and driven in four in 13 games this season.

Gaspar Palacio (2B, Tigres de Cartagena): 1-4, 2 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB – While Palacio’s slash line is unimpressive (.158/.320/.263 – his triple yesterday finally got his slugging percentage higher than his batting average), he has been impressive in terms of run production (five scored and three driven in in six games [five starts]).

CAIMANES DE BARRANQUILLA 4, VAQUEROS DE MONTERIA 2

FORMER INDIANS

Audy Ciriaco (1B, Caimanes de Barranquilla): 0-4, 1 K – Ciriaco was unable to follow up his big Thursday with a similar performance.

Jhon Peluffo (RP, Vaqueros de Monteria): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R (earned), 3 K – Peluffo further improved his impressive K:BB ratio to 12:3.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES 3, TIGRES DEL LICEY 1 (GAME 1 – 7 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIAN

Sandy Leon (C, Tigres de Licey): 0-1, 1 BB, 1 K – Leon only saw two plate appearances in the abbreviated contest as he was on deck when the game ended.

TIGRES DEL LICEY 5, ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES 3 (GAME 2 – 7 INNINGS)

Francisco Mejia (C, Estrellas Orientales): 1-3, 2 RBI – In the nightcap, it was the Estrellas who had a former Indian behind the plate. Mejia, who played his 14th game of the season last night, had his first multi-RBI performance in a seven-inning game.

GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 6, TOROS DEL ESTE 1 (GAME 1 – 7 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIAN

Abraham Almonte (CF, Toros del Este): 1-3, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 SB – Almonte’s leadoff double in the fourth was his first extra-base hit of the season and only his second hit of the season in 25 at-bats in seven games played.

FORMER INDIANS

Ivan Castillo (DH, Leones del Escogido): 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K – Castillo returned to the field for the first time in exactly three weeks.

Melky Cabrera (starting LF, Aguilas Cibaenas): 2-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – Cabrera started the night for the Aguilas offense with a solo shot (his third homer of the season) and followed it up with his tenth RBI of the campaign on a sixth-inning single.

Robel Garcia (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SB – Garcia ended a six-game RBI drought by driving in his tenth run of the season (in 23 games) on a fifth-inning fielder’s choice.

FORMER INDIANS

Carlos Rivero (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 1-5, 1 R, 1 K, 1 E – Hopefully, a hit in three of his last four games is a sign that Rivero is recovering from his recent three-game hitless slump.

Yonathan Mendoza (LF, Cardenales de Lara): 1-4, 1 RBI – Mendoza has driven in a run in consecutive games for the first time since a pair of two-RBI games in a December 5 doubleheader.

Yapson Gomez (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K – Gomez resumed normal service with a shutout eighth after allowing his first (unearned) run of the season on Tuesday.

TIBURONES DE LA GUAIRA 5, LEONES DEL CARACAS 2

FORMER INDIAN

Juan Apodaca (C, Tiburones de La Guaira): 0-2, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 HBP – Apodaca is quickly becoming the Brandon Guyer of the Venezuelan game. He extended his season-opening hit-by-pitch streak to six games on Friday night. I tried searching for the longest HBP streak in major league history and could only find results on hitting streaks. That’s how rare an HBP streak is.

CARIBES DE ANZOATEGUI 4, TIGRES DE ARAGUA 3

FORMER INDIANS

Alex Monsalve (backup C, Tigres de Aragua): no plate appearances – Monsalve caught the bottom of the ninth after starter Wilfredo Gimenez was pinch-run for by a non-catcher in top of the inning.

NAVEGANTES DEL MAGALLANES 5, BRAVOS DE MARGARITA 0

FORMER INDIAN

Anthony Vizcaya (RP, Navegantes del Magallanes): 1 IP, perfect, 1 K – Martinez pitched an inning’s worth of perfect baseball, getting the last two outs in the bottom of the eighth and the first in the latter half of the final frame.

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)

TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 10, CHARROS DE JALISCO 0

FORMER INDIAN

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (starting SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K – Chavez’s three-run homer in the third was his third round-tripper of the season and increased his RBI total to eleven.

NARANJEROS DE HERMOSILLO 4, AGUILAS DE MEXICALI 2

FORMER INDIAN

Michael Choice (DH, Aguilas de Mexicali): 0-5, 2 K – Choice has now gone nine games without a multi-hit evening. In that stretch he is 4-for-30 (.133) with a pair of homers representing his only extra-base hits.
