DOMINICAN LEAGUE (LIDOM)
Estrellas Orientales 5, Aguilas Cibaenas 6 F/12
FORMER INDIANS
Melky Cabrera (LF, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 1-5, 1 R, 1 SO – The Melk-Man had a slow day. His hit in the sixth inning did lead to him scoring the tying run.
Robel García (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 2-5, 3 SO – García appears to slowly but surely be coming around. He was primed to score go-ahead run in the seventh frame but got thrown out at home.
Francisco Mejia (C, Estrellas Orientales) – 0-6 – It wasn’t a pretty game for the catcher. Not only did Mejia go hitless but he left eight man stranded on base throughout the game.
Gigantes del Cibao 5, Leones del Escogido 2
Edward Paredes (RP, Leones del Escogido) – 0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 1 SO – After Gigantes del Cibao tied the game Leones del Escogido needed a clean ninth inning to give themselves a chance to walk off. Paredes was called in after Travis Radke allowed back-to-back singles to open the frame. Paredes didn’t fare much better as he loaded the bases then surrendered a RBI-single to Melvin Mercedes before the manager had to make another move to the bullpen.
Tigres del Licey 7, Toros del Este 10
CURRENT INDIAN
Anthony Gose (RP, Toros del Este) – 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 2 SO – The southpaw was on his way to tossing a clean eighth frame before giving up a two-out double to Pablo Reyes. He struck out Sergio Alcantara to strand Reyes and it ended up being huge that he did because Toros del Este went on to put up five runs to take the lead in the bottom half.
FORMER INDIANS
Sandy León (C, Tigres del Licey) – 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO – León has been coming up with clutch hits throughout the Winter Leagues. It was no different on Monday when he singled home a run to widen the lead to six runs in the third inning.
Abraham Almonte (LF, Toros del Este) – 0-3, 2 R, 2 BB – Almonte may not have gotten any hits but he did reach base. His walk in the eighth inning helped result in a two-run single by Yamaico Navarro to help Toros del Este tie the game.
Yasiel Puig (CF, Toros del Este) – 1-2, 3 R, 3 BB – Puig was active on the base paths. His biggest moment came when his single in the eighth inning loaded the bases to pave the way for Navarro’s game-tying hit.
