It was another action-packed day in the Winter Leagues. Plenty of former Indians enjoyed strong performances. The IBI’s Daniel Sherriff takes you Around the Farm.

Toros del Este 4, Leones del Escogido 6

Paolo Espino (SP, Toros del Este) – 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R/ER, 2 BB, 3 SO – The righty was sailing through the first three innings. Then he surrendered two runs in the fourth inning on two hits and a walk. He escaped further damage by stranding a runner on third base with just one out but ran into a buzzsaw in the fifth inning. Three more runs came around to score on four hits including a two-run homer and a RBI-double and that ended Espino’s day.

Tigres del Licey 0, Aguilas Cibaenas 3

Melky Cabrera (LF, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 2-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB – The veteran was pretty much the player of the game for Aguilas Cibaenas. Cabrera delivered the pivotal hit to put Aguilas Cibaenas in control as he slugged a two-run home run in fourth inning. He picked up another hit in the eighth inning then was subbed out for a pinch-runner.

Robel García (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 1-4, 1 SO – The second baseman’s lone base hit came after Cabrera’s two-run jack in the fourth frame. Other than that it was an uneventful day for García.

Sandy León (C, Tigres del Licey) – 0-3, 1 SO – Another game has gone by and the veteran catcher is still searching for his first base hit of the Winter League.

Gigantes de Barranquilla 5, Caimanes de Barranquilla 4

Daniel Aguilar (LF, Gigantes de Barranquilla) – 2-4, 1 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO – Aguilar’s first double came in the fifth inning but he was stranded on second base. His second double ended up being the hit of the game as he had the go-ahead hit in the ninth inning to bring Gigantes de Barranquilla all the way back.

Audy Ciriaco (1B, Caimanes de Barranquilla) – 0-2, 2 BB – Ciriaco didn’t collect a hit but he worked a pivotal walk in the eighth inning to load the bases which in turn set up a bases-loaded walk for his teammate Chris Correa as a part of a four-run frame.

Sultanes de Monterrey 11, Yaquis de Obregon 5

Jeff Johnson (RP, Sultanes de Monterrey) – 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 1 SO – The righty had a six-run lead to work with when he was called on to finish off the ninth. There was no excitement as he retired the side in order.

Mayos de Navojoa 2, Aguilas de Mexicali 7

Michael Choice (LF, Aguilas de Mexicali) – 0-3, 1 R, 2 SO – In a game where there was a ton of offense for Aguilas de Mexicali surprisingly Choice wasn’t in on the action. He did reach base twice but that was due to getting hit-by-pitch in both instances.

Caneros de Los Mochis 1, Tomateros de Culiacan 7

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan) – 1-4, 1 R – Chavez singled on a ground ball to left field in the sixth inning to put runners at first and second with no outs. Michael Wing cashed in with two outs on a two-run double to left field to extend Tomateros de Culiacan to a comfortable 5-1 lead.
