Niuman Romero (3B, Caribes de Anzoategui): 1-3, 1 BB – Romero also duplicated his most recent stat line, going 1-for-3 with a free pass in each of his last two outings after a pair of 0-for-3 nights to start the Venezuelan campaign.

Anthony Vizcaya (RP, Navegantes del Magallanes): H (1), 1 IP, 1 K – Vizcaya got the Aguilas three up, three down in the seventh…after the leadoff hitter reached on an error and beat the throw to second on a fielder’s choice in the ensuing plate appearance, In the end, though, Anthony remains unscored upon on two hits in three innings in as many games while getting five of his nine outs via strikeout.

CARDENALES DE LARA 6, BRAVOS DE MARGARITA 2

FORMER INDIANS

Yonathan Mendoza (2B, Cardenales de Lara): 2-5, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBI – Mendoza makes it three two-hit games in a row, each with a double. Last night, he added his first triple of the campaign and drove in a pair of runs to double his season total.

Yapson Gomez (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K – Gomez has taken the mound in each of the Cardenales’ four games so far and has allowed only two (baserunners (one hit and last night;s walk) in a quartet of scoreless frames.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE (LIDOM)

TIGRES DEL LICEY 4, GIGANTES DEL CIBAO 3 (10 INNINGS)

CURRENT INDIAN

Jean Carlos Mejia (RP, Tigres del Licey): 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R (unearned), 2 BB – Mejia, who pitched for the High-A Lynchburg Hillcats in 2019, had a respectable outing to open his account for the 2020-21 LIDOM season, especially considering his total lack of competitive innings this summer.

FORMER INDIAN

Jairo Asencio (RP, Tigres del Licey): S (3), 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (earned), 1 HR – Despite allowing a solo shot, Asencio held on for the tenth-inning save.

Melky Cabrera (DH, Aguilas Cibaenas): 1-4 – Cabrera extended his hitting streak to three games but was unable to do the same for his run-scoring streak.

Robel Garcia (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas): 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 K – Garcia has reached safely in eight games in a row, a streak extended on three occasions, including two games in a row, by a walk or walks. He also drove in the Aguilas’ lone run of the game for his eighth RBI of the season.

LEONES DEL ESCOGIDO 3, ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES 2 (10 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIANS

Francisco Mejia (C, Estrellas Orientales): 0-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – While his hitless streak reached, he did score his first run in eleven days after reaching on a walk in the top half of the fifth inning.

Charlie Valerio (backup C, Leones del Escogido): no plate appearances – Valerio caught the tenth frame after starting C Julio E. Rodriguez was pulled for non-catcher pinch hitter Cesar Puello in the bottom of the ninth. This was his second appearance of the season after striking out in his lone at-bat on Sunday as a pinch hitter (and backup catcher).

MEXICAN PACIFIC LEAGUE (LMP)

CHARROS DE JALISCO 9, ALGONODEROS DE GUASAVE 5

FORMER INDIAN

Brennan Bernardino (RP, Charros de Jalisco): 1 IP, perfect – Bernardino closed out the Charros victory with a perfect top of the ninth inning. He has allowed only two runs in 7.1 innings in seven games this season, both to the Naranjeros de Hermosillo on November 22. He also allowed half of his four hits given up in that game (the other two came a week later at the Tomateros de Culiacan).

SULTANES DE MONTERREY 3, CANEROS DE LOS MOCHIS 0

FORMER INDIAN

Jeff Johnson (RP, Sultanes de Monterrey): S (2), 1 IP, 3 BB – Johnson loaded the bases with only out (and had walked a pair before getting the first out), but induced a game-ending double play to seal victory for the Nuevo Leon nine.

VENADOS DE MAZATLAN 3, TOMATEROS DE CULIACAN 2

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (SS, Tomateros de Culiacan): 0-4, 1 BB, 1 K – Chavez is STILL slashing .325/.402/.416 after two straight hitless games and a three-game 1-for-13 stretch!

AGUILAS DE MEXICALI 3, MAYOS DE NAVOJOA 2 (13 INNINGS)

FORMER INDIAN

Michael Choice (LF, Aguilas de Mexicali): 0-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB – Choice scored his run as the runner starting the inning at 2nd base in the 12th. I’ll spare you my rant on that rule as I’m typing this at 3:14 AM.
