FORMER INDIANS

Yonathan Mendoza (3B, Cardenales de Lara): 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 E – Mendoza’s Opening Day was a hitless one, but he drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth frame.

Yapson Gomez (RP, Cardenales de Lara): 0.2 IP, perfect – Gomez got Aguilas pinch hitter Jesus Montero to ground into a double play on the first pitch to end what risked becoming an interminable top of the ninth.

Elvia Araujo (SP, Aguilas del Zulia): ND, 4 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 kK – While Araujo pitched one inning too few to be eligible for the individual victory, his stellar start contributed heavily to Zulia’s team triumph.

Robel Garcia (starting 2B, Aguilas Cibaenas): 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K – Garcia started the day 0-for-3 before walking in the eighth and immediately being pulled for pinch-runner Yefri Perez. The hitless effort was his third in his last four and fifth in nine games this season.

Ronny Rodriguez (3B-2B), Aguilas Cibaenas): 2-4, 1 RBI – Ronny-Rod drove in the Aguilas’ lone run of the game on a fourth-inning single for his second RBI of the Dominican season.

Ivan Castillo (starting 2B, Leones del Escogido): 2-2, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB – Castillo is slashing .290/.371/.387 after reaching base in all three plate appearances on Friday night.

ESTRELLAS ORIENTALES 7, TOROS DEL ESTE 4

Francisco Mejia (C, Estrellas Orientales): 0-5, 1 K – Mejia’s 0-for-5 Friday was his worst game of the season and only the second time he hasn’t reached base in six games during the current LIDOM campaign.

Jose Guadalupe Chavez (2B, Tomateros de Culiacan): 2-4, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI – Chavez continues to rake, with his slash line now standing at .375/.452/.484 with eight RBI and a 3:9 K:BB ratio in 18 games.

Derrick Loop (RP, Tomateros de Culiacan): 0.2 IP, 2 K – Loop struck out both batters he faced on Friday night to increase his season total to six in as many innings in as many games.
