Estrellas Orientales 7, Aguilas Cibaenas 9


Ronny Rodriguez (3B, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 1-3, 1 R, 1 3B – Ronny-Rod had a good night. He got the scoring started for Aguilas Cibaenas with a triple to right field in the third inning. A throwing error allowed him to score the game’s first run. He then hit a sac fly to center field in the fifth inning to help Aguilas Cibaenas claw back into the game.

Francisco Mejia (DH, Estrellas Orientales) – 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SO – Mejia didn’t get a hit but he did play a big role in the four-run fifth inning. The designated hitter lofted a sac fly to right field to push the lead to 3-1 for Estrellas Orientales.

Robel Garcia (2B, Aguilas Cibaenas) – 1-3, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Garcia’s base hit in the fifth inning set up a perfect scoring situation for Aguilas Cibaenas as his hit put runners at second and third with no out. Later on he showed patience at the plate and worked a bases-loaded walk to put his team up 5-4 in sixth inning.


Aguilas de Mexicali 0, Sultanes de Monterrey 3


Michael Choice (LF, Aguilas de Mexicali) – 0-3, 2 SO – The left fielder didn’t get a hit but did reach base in the eighth inning on a fielding error by the third baseman for Sultanes de Monterrey.

Jeff Johnson (RP, Sultanes de Monterrey) – 2.0 IP, 1 SV, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 SO – The righty was called on for the six-out save on Thursday. Johnson flirted with trouble as he had two men on base with two outs in the eighth inning but escaped damage by freezing Jose Manuel Orozco on strike three. Aguilas de Mexicali threatened to score again in the ninth on a one-out double by Leo Haras but Johnson worked around it to seal the shutout.
