(all stats full season-to-date)
Jeff Johnson (Sultanes de Monterrey, RP): 2 G, 2 IP, perfect, 1 K – Johnson made his 2020-21 debut this week with a pair of perfect innings against the Algonoderos de Guasave. Jeff’s strikeout came in his debut outing on Tuesday (his other effort came on Friday).
Jose Guadalupe Chavez (Tomateros de Culiacan, IF): 8 G, 10-27, 4 R, 1 2B, 5 RBI, 4 BB, 2 SB – Chavez has replaced Johnson as the former Indian not to play in any games this week. He is listed on the LMP website as being on the Tomateros’ active roster, so his inactivity appears to be a managerial decision.
Roman Pena (Venados de Mazatlan, RP): 4 G, 1.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R (all earned), 2 BB, 1 K, 2 HR allowed – Pena continued to struggle this week as he allowed another earned run while only recording two outs in as many appearances.
Michael Choice (Aguilas de Mexicali, OF): 17 G, 13-60, 7 R, 1 2B, 3 HR, 9 BB, 13 K, 2 SB – Choice continues to literally be an everyday player for the Aguilas, having not missed one of their 17 games played so far. While his 1-for-5 Sunday night did drop his batting average a point (from .218 to .217), he did drive in his eighth run of the campaign on a sacrifice fly in Mexicali’s six-run tenth inning (yes, you read that correctly). A week without extra-base hits has taken it;s tool on Michael’s power numbers, which now stand at a .383 SLG and .166 ISO. K:BB ratio is fairly consistent (6:5 in the first week and a half, 7:4 last week).
