Eight years ago tonight, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers hosted the New York-Penn League All-Star Game at Eastwood Field in Niles. The hosts had five players on the American League roster, including three members of the starting lineup: C Charlie Valerio (batting 2nd), 3B Joey Wendle (3rd), and DH Joe Sever (5th).

It was a relatively uneventful night at the plate for the Scrapper hitters, with singles from Wendle and Sever being the sum of their offensive impact.

On the pitching side, Luis DeJesus started and threw a perfect inning with a called strikeout. Jacob Lee followed with a perfect second in which he struck out a pair (both swinging, one on a foul tip).

The Most Valuable Player was Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins) CF Juancito Martinez, who singled in both of his plate appearances and stole both second and third in the fifth inning after driving in what would be the eventual game-winning run in the Senior Circuit’s 8-1 victory. Other notable names included Batavia Muckdogs 2B Breyvic Valera and current Indians reliever Nick Wittgren, who was then pitching for the Jammers.
