August 13, 2006
The Indians were pretty good at fielding minor league teams that were winning a lot of games but didn’t produce a ton of major league talent from them. 2006 in Kinston was a prime example.
In an 11-5 win over the now Indians affiliate (for now, anyway) Lynchburg Hillcats, the K-Tribe got three homers and 14 hits. OF Jose Constanza had the big day with five RBI on three hits including a homer and a triple.
Ironically enough, Constanza had the most MLB appearances of anyone on the K-Tribe in this lineup. Only Jordan Brown made it to the majors as well. But Constanza’s time in the majors came in Atlanta.
The two notable names in the Hillcats order were future right handed power bat trade acquisition Brent Lillibridge and the right handed bat they should have acquired at a trade deadline, Steve Pearce.
2010
Speaking of good teams that didn’t produce enough MLB help, Cord Phelps also had five RBI on this day in 2010.
Phelps had an RBI single and a grand slam to tally his five RBI. Even though he made the majors before the likes of Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall, the two prospects he rose through the system with.
Ironically, both Phelps and Chisenhall are out of baseball while Kipnis, whow as called up last out of all three, remained around.
Also interesting, Gonstanza had four more hits in this one and three RBI. David Huff got the win in 7.2 innings and future Tribe 1B Yonder Alosno in this 12-4 win by the Clippers.
