July 25 – Various dates
There wasn’t one impressive performance or game on this day, so we’re going to bring you a variety of notable performances from this day.
2005
Kinston Indians 9, Fredrick Keys 3
Leadoff hitter Mike Conroy drove in five runs on three hits including a homer. It was the Mike Conroy show in this win, only one more hitter had more than one hit (Jerad Head).
Carlton Smith made it hold up allowing two runs in 6.2 innings, walking one and striking out four.
2017
Akron RubberDucks 1, Binghamton Mets 0
We couldn’t not talk more about Shane Bieber after this performance on the Opening Day of 2020. In a double-header on this day of 2017, Bieber pitched 6.2 shutout innings allowing with five hits, one walk and struck out five.
Current Indians reliever, making his debut in 2020, Cam Hill backed up Bieber with 2.1 innings pitched of perfect relief with one strikeout.
2018
In continuing talking about the current Indians rotation, Zach Plesac authored a stellar performance on this day in 2018 for the Lynchburg Hillcats, and then made his MLB debut less than a year later from this game.
Plesac struck out 10 in seven innings pitched with six hits allowed and a run.
Jared Robinson got a pair of outs behind him and James Karinchak, who also made his debut a little over a year later from this game, walked two and struck out three in 1.1 innings of work. A fairly normal Karinchak line.
2018, Pt. II
While not making his major league debut yet, but on the 40 man roster, on this date in 2018 Jean Carlos Mejia stuck out 10 in seven innings with just three hits and a walk allowed.
Two other prospective relievers for the 2020 season, Kyle Nelson and Nick Sandlin, combined for two scoreless innings behind him.
The Captains scored their only run in this 1-0 win over Western Michigan on a passed ball.
