A decade ago today, the Columbus Clippers put up twelve runs on 18 hits off of the Pawtucket Red Sox pitching staff. The 8-9-1-2 stretch of the Columbus lineup each drove in multiple runs: a pair from C Lou Marson and three each from CF Ezequiel Carrera, SS Luis Valbuena, and LF Josh Rodriguez. Valbuena had an incredible evening at the plate, going 5-for-6 with two doubles and a three-run homer while scoring a trio of runs himself. Josh-Rod also got all three of his RBI on a three-run home run, Over half of the Clipper hitters had multi-hit outings and only 3B Jared Goedert failed to get a hit (and he reached on a walk).

And it was a good thing that they did. It was a rough day for the Columbus hurlers to say the least. Starter David Huff and relievers Zach Putnam and Josh Judy combined to allow 7 runs on 16 hits. Judy’s ninth was the highlight of the day on the mound (1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 K).

Needless to say, this was a lengthy game, with those of the 10,891 who stuck it out until the end heading for the concourse at the brand-new Huntington Park at 10:34 PM. Some might call this too long. Some, like me, would call three and a half hours of live baseball the definition of heaven on earth.
