Some days, a team’s offense just isn’t firing on all cylinders, On, other days, they’re running at full throttle. This is the story of a day when the Kinston Indians offense was in full-blown Top Fuel Dragster engine mode.
A decade ago today, the K-Tribe amassed an astronomical 15 hits, including four by LF Bo Greenwell, who was in only his third game at the Advanced level of Single-A ball after an All-Star Break call-up from the Lake County Captains, where he slashed .310/.395/.427 with 36 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 66 first half games (He finished the second half with a .292/.364/.363 slash, 21 RBI, and 10 steals in 65 games). His tally included one extra-base hit, a double.
Most of the remaining offense came from the rest of the top six hitters in the order getting a pair of hits each. These five hitters included (extra-base hits in parentheses): CF Lucas Montero, RF Abner Abreu, DH Kyle Bellows (solo homer to lead off the bottom of the fifth), 2B Karexon Sanchez (another solo homer on the very next at-bat), and 1B Doug Pickens (double). This offensive outburst led to a total of six runs, which is a good thing as starter Austin Adams and relievers Kyle Turek, Matt Langwell, and Cory Burns combined to allow four runs on nine Potomac (now Fredericksburg) Nationals hits.
