June 22, 2011
The Columbus Clippers were on an impressive run at the time. This 13-7 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens made them 51-23. The the lineup they had, it wasn’t much of a surprise why.
On this date, the Clippers lineup featured:
Ezequiel Carrera in centerfield, who had three hits, two runs scored and two RBI
Jason Kipnis at second base, who went 1-4 with two walks and two runs scored
Lonnie Chisenhall, who was the star of the game and the reason this box score stood out – 4-6 with a homer and six RBI. With a triple, two singles and a homer, he was a double shy of the cycle.
Corey Kluber started the contest, though it was not one of his better final line scores – three innings, four hits, six runs, and six walks.
Luke Carlin, who most recently was the Captains manager, was the catcher on this day.
Big leaguers Luis Valbeuna and Shelley Duncan were also in the lineup.
Chisenhall, Kipnis, Kluber and Carrera all went on to make this MLB debuts in 2011.
How far back do you go in “This Day in…”
MiLB box scores database online only goes back to 2005, so generally the furthest back we go is 2005. There are occasions where there are events we recall that go beyond that or we can find on Google if we’re searching for something specific. It’s just hard to pin down specific dates past 2005 without an online database for minor league box scores.
