On this day fifteen years ago, the Akron Aeros defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) 11-8. RF Ben Francisco drove in three runs while 2BB Eider Torres and CF Jon Van Every each drove in a pair, the latter in a three-hit effort. This victory coming despite a start from J.D. Martin (4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R [5 earned], 1 BB, 6 K, 2 HR allowed) that would’ve sunk his team on the vast majority of nights. The y also overcame being held scoreless in five of the eight innings they came to the plate (compared to four zeros our of nine on the Fisher cats’ line score) thanks to a nine-hit outburst in the fourth and fifth frames.

This game would’ve been crazy enough taken in isolation, but it’s made even more ridiculous by knowing that the Aeros topped the baseball side from the home of the nation’s first presidential primary (Fun Fact: The Fisher Cats were nearly named the New Hampshire Primaries) by the whopping score of 17-13. You read that right. That’s not an Akron Zips football score. 17-13. When you combine the two nights, you get some incredible composite stat lines, which you would expect from two nights of baseball that combined for 49 runs on 67 hits.
